my interpretation of the post (and i'm trying to ignore the cultural aspects and just focus on your friend and whether or not he is lying) is that the friend told you different things when asked about what happened to the bottle of vodka.

it's entirely possible, that when you asked at first he just gave an answer off the top of his head. then when you pressed him, he actually looked around the house and found some bottle of vodka, then gave you that story. i think it is perfectly reasonable that he isn't sure what happened to your vodka, but it is nice of him to offer to get you another bottle.

obviously, it is also possible that he drank some and is lying. but if all your friends saw your bottle there unopened, did they never see him drinking the vodka? without proof, i think it's best to cut your friend some slack here.

Yeah, I was really close to giving up there too, but then decided to believe Place P to be some wacky Finnish name for a bar. I'm just really glad his friends didn't end up being named A, B, and C. What a funny coincidence that would have been.

If the "thief" drank all that booze by himself he would have been found wandering through the Finnish Lakes trying to make love to a reindeer.

Obviously you've never drank with finns.
And as stinkypete said, it's probably a cultural thing.

I drink like 6 beers and totally remember this, I didn't drink more beers ... I didn't even finish my first bottle of vodka

Obviously you're the lightweight of the crew? Advice: drink less and keep an eye on your booze. Sneaky thieving Finns are everywhere!

Don't leave booze at a friends house, just bring a little more then enough for yourself at the party.

Besides he offered to buy you a new one, just accept it and everything should be cool?

Why did you bring 2 bottles of vodka and at least 16 beers with you? I get that you are Finnish, but come on.

Also, most of you seem to miss the issue here. It's not that the friend drank the vodka, it's that he lied about it. Also, he very probably did not drink that much vodka after he was already drunk. What seems more probable is that he decided to keep the vodka for himself for later, and that is a dick move (at least where I come from). That he offered to buy a new one after he got busted does not change anything. OP has plenty reason to be upset.
