...I always think of it this way

Should would I do outside of my job affect my employment status....I dont think so

...If I wanna get high, break the law, kill people etc...and it doesnt affect my job then who cares

[/ QUOTE ]

this debate was already had - but the whole point is that those things are very likely to affect your job. if you get drunk every night, who's to say you won't get drunk during the day? when someone is spiraling out of control, work is very often affected.

[/ QUOTE ]

but Pacman was really good last year on the field, so well the off the field stuff didn't hurt much if at all

[/ QUOTE ]

The fact is that, unlike most of our employers, the NFL derives its revenues from viewership. If its fanbase doiesn't like what goes on off the field, it will impact business. This really isn't that tough to figure out.

[/ QUOTE ]

I highly doubt more than a tiny %(like 1 in a 1000 or less) of viewers would stop watching football if Pacman played

i don't follow the titans at all, but i've been impressed by how articulate jones has appeared in all of the interviews i've seen. could be handlers feeding him stuff, but who knows.

i just have to believe that losing a years salary that he'll never be able to make up will be enough to keep this dude from causing too much trouble for the next year. this is sort of an unprecedented punishment, isn't it?

i'm not sure how i feel about this, wrt outside life impacting his work life. in any case, as far as the answer to this question

[ QUOTE ]
Odds he stays out of trouble and comes back next year? I'm going with 0%.

95%+ this guy may be ignorant but he is not stupid.

[/ QUOTE ]

i'm gonna have to disagree with that.

[/ QUOTE ]

So he's uninformed, not stupid. Had he known that cavorting with thugs who shoot up strip clubs might be incriminating, he would have stayed in his hotel and played solitaire all night. Now that he fully understands the law, he will be a saint. LOL

I think:

1) He IS stupid.

2) Even if he weren't, he's ignorant of any other way to act.

3) Even if he knew another way to act, he doesn't have the self control to act like he should.

I keep reading that the players are behind tougher penalties for stuff like this. I think most of them *aren't* doucehbags and they realize the idiots and the negative publicity could eventually eat into their own paychecks.

So now he has a whole year on his hands with nothing to do and nowhere to be?

Sounds like a horrible idea if you are trying to keep him out of trouble.

Employers. And everybody else.

This is a really awful post. You don't really believe this, do you?

[/ QUOTE ]

Absolutetely...I can understand the viewpoint that it can effect viewership...but is there anyone you know of that didnt watch the super bowl because of Tank? Neither did I.....

...I understand the image the league wants to portray but when you give individuals millions of dollars, when there whole life they have had to struggle to get a dime, dumb things will occur...

...and from what I recall Pacman hasnt even been convicted or arrested yet in regards to his actions...so the NFL is suspending him with an innocent until proven guilty approach which is against most everything the legal system stands for?

...it may be a [censored] opinion to some, but it is just one mans opinion?

...hypothetically imagine word gets to your employer that you may or not have banged a hooker and been drunk and high...and they fire you or suspend you without you being convicted of either? How pissed will you be?

Sad. PacMan is a top 10 defensive player.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is so incredibly not sad...it's about time the NFL cracked down on thugs. If Pac wants to play he can follow the damn law....not that difficult of a thing to ask is it?
