Re: How many of you have been or are in the military?
My dad's a Navy captain, been in for 24 years. So while I don't know what it's like to be in the military, I've got some experience, and I think you guys all rock for it.

Re: How many of you have been or are in the military?
I just got out of Navy Bootcamp on the 13th of march. I was seperated after 3 months for asthma. Enlisting was the worst decision of my life; I'm not bitter about getting SEPd either. Asthma was a godsend. Enlisting in the armed forces is virtual life suicide. Basically the 99% reason ppl enlist is because they screwed up at something else first and they see it as a "way out". If you aren't an officer you are less than nothing and all that will happen to you is abuse ("training") and lies. The amount of lies you are fed is unreal from the recruiters to the moment you leave. Most enlisted members just want to get out. You don't make any money. You lose a lot of basic freedoms. Basically you are a tool. 100% tool. They justify this by citing necessity and talk about the honor etc. in serving your country. Screw a country that is going to use you until they find out you aren't of any use to them then throw you out on the street without any basic medical care. (living in medical seperations for 26 days i saw some pretty screwed over ppl. One of my friends was "beat" so badly something went wrong in his brain and now he has permanent muscle spasms and they aren't going to help him. Others had unknown preexisting medical conditions that were serious but being preexisting they did not recieve ANY treatment. If there is anything i would EVER tell anyone as advice it is not to enlist in the military unless you are one step from homelessness. It will make you bitter; and i only had to do 3 months not the full 8 (which they don't tell you it is an 8 year commitment even as you are studying your 4-6 year contract). I'm honestly considering writing a book about my experiences because I feel it is a HUGE injustice how the military treats it's enlisted members.

Yeah well, if you guys have any brains I can't imagine you would want to waste your life being just a little piece of machinery with little or no option of independent thought.
