It is an old one, and I'd imagine it's been around in some form since the early 20th century.

[/ QUOTE ] I think you're talking semantics here. Sure a sentence can end in a preposition. A sentence can also not have any nouns, or verbs. A sentence CAN be completely nonsensical, but that doesn't make it acceptable.

OP didn't ask if it would make an acceptable sentence, or if it made a sentence at all. He asked "can a sentence end with a preposition?", and of course they do, people do it all the time. I do too.
I fully realize I'm being a nit, but hey if we didn't have nitty responses this wouldn't be 2+2
