About 9-12 hours a month of .5/1 NL or 1/2 or 2/4 limit full-ring should get you there.

Yep. I was gunna cry bs on that one.

I think for low volume players (like me), FTP rakeback is "better". "Better" being "achievable".

I play about 5k hands of 1/2, 2/4 or 3/6 full-ring a month. Not really easy to get gold like that. It is much nicer to get a couple hundred bucks a month rakeback on full tilt for me.

Guys:

If you can achieve goldstar (or esp. plat), the 2 programs are pretty darn similar. If you arent getting higher than this, you arent making a ton in RB anyway.

If you are a plat/nova volume player, I think stars is better because FT deducts. FT is definitely better when you have a bonus though.

Just pick the site you like. I would estimate for you low volume players saying you cant get goldstar, the difference in programs is about $30/month. Just off the top of my head, dont berate me if its off.

An 8 dollar hand equals an FPP ($.40 Rake), a $40 hand equals 2 FPPs. Aren't most hands at least 8 dollar hands at this level?

$8 pot for $0.40 rake = 1 FPP only at 1/2 and lower.

At 2/4 and higher it requires a $1 rake (=$20 pot).

$40 pot for $2 rake = 2 FPP's only on the 6-max tables.
It takes a $70 pot for $3 rake to earn 2 FPP's on the full-ring tables.

At 2/4 or 3/6 full-ring I would very roughly guesstimate about 50 points an hour.
This is just a total guess on my part though.
Pretty sure it's posted somewhere but I don't feel like finding it.

If you are really curious you can just play on any 1 table for 20 minutes and you will have a very good estimate.

For all of those who are "part time" players.. Ive got 14k hands this year at Pokerstars, and have never reached goldstar. I just make enough vpp to keep silver each month.

@ 27% rakeback I would of made ~$165 at fulltilt
@ Pokerstars I earned 7100 fpp instead (would have an extra 750 if I started the year silver) and $100 GC = 6500ffp

I'm not near pokertracker at the moment, but as I said, for me 5k hands/month will not get gold status. Silver easy. Gold no.

Your numbers and MicroBob's numbers show this. I believe it is 4k points to get gold? So that means that 80% of my 5k hands would have to reach the $8 mark. It just doesnt happen.

I'll post my details at full-tilt when I get home. But in Feb, took in just over $100 in rackback and cleared ~$350 of the deposit bonus. Without the bonus deduction from my MGR, my rakeback would have been over $200 I think. I'll update this when I get home.

At least some sort of bonus for players from period to period, not year to year.
