The relevant gun death statistics from the 2002 WHO study show the following per 100,000 population:

USA Homicide 4, Suicide 6, Accident 0.4. Total 10.4
UK Homicide 0.12 Suicide 0.22 Accident 0.01 Total 0.35

Even if only 25% of the US homicides were caused by guns that were acquired legally that is still 8x the total gun homicide rate in the UK and 3x the gun death rate in the UK from all causes.

And legal guns still get used in suicides and in accidental deaths of course (and also get passed on illegally and become illegal guns later in their 'life' cycle).

Of course it's nice to know that the US Govt is adopting such a laissez faire attitude to guns whilst clamping down on the real evils of society like Internet poker..we liberal pinko commies over here in Europe feel so jealous of you Yankees..

If you feel you will be safer by not owning a gun, that is your right. But, you DO NOT have the right to tell me that I don't need guns to protect myself. 2nd Amendment FWIW, which is why I support your 1st Amendment right.
