poker addiction is merely a symptom
the root problem is much deeper

I'm married so my social life was over long before poker came along.

I think it's all a matter of prioritizing things in your life, including time for your friends. Whether you want to or not, there are things in your life that you SHOULD do. For example, if you're married or have kids, you SHOULD spend time with them even if you want to be left alone. Another good example is your health. You may not want to go to the gym and rather just down a dozen donuts, but you SHOULD pay attention to your health.

Don't let poker become everything in your life. Leave time for other things, too.

Before I moved west, I balanced out my poker and social life pretty evenly. Now, well, I suck at making new friends so I just play poker more than I used to. However, I have also made some cool new friends through poker.

Poker itself hasn't, but 2+2 certainly has.

i don't think it has really affected it at all. even before poker, i never really wanted to do anything.

yeah. this is about right for me too. something pretty damn cool has to be going on for me to go out. especially now that i work full time and have to wake up at 6:45 and then make a [censored] hour long drive to work.

Because I don't want poker (or any computer-related entertainment) to destroy my social life and I feel rediciously stupid if I sit home alone while I know that all kinds of people are having fun/sex right then, I make an effort to not letting poker get into the way of my social life. That way, I actually have enhanced my social life. I found that poker (or any other thing like playing computer games in a league) is an easy way to have an excuse to not succeed socially.

Is it possible to be thoroughly bored of my addiction?
An honest, rhetorical question.
