Question: Money earnt by authors?

The definition of hand-picked is "carefully selected". My impression of things is that Lee Jones's book had sold very well and that 2+2 took that as a sign that they should write a book on low stakes hold em as well.

Obviously you had to meet Ed some way or the other. He was not already well known in the poker field so it would have been unlikely for you to have made the first contact. But it appears that the small stakes book concept was one that you and David wanted to write/publish about for some time as your long-standing argument about Lee Jones book quality would attest.

You needed someone to be the primary author so you "hand-picked" or carefully selected Ed to do the project, correct? Because Ed's book on flop play never materialized.

And for another gossip question I've read that Ed was introduced to his wife by a stripper. I was wondering given some of David's posts if a stripper that David knew was responsible for the introduction.

What you're saying sounds logical, but it didn't work that way. While we thought the first edition of Jones was a crummy book, with the second edition being somewhat better, we didn't seek a small stakes book of our own even though we knew the Jones book had sold very well.

When Miller began to work on a manuscript, he quickly changed the idea from "Flop" to "Small Stakes." This was probably because he was dismantling the Jones book on these forums and was thinking along these lines. So again we said, "Go ahead."

Two Plus Two doesn't always work like people think. Many things seem to happen naturally to us as opposed to something preplanned. That was the case with the "Small Stakes" book. We made no effort to preplan this project and didn't hand pick anyone.

As an example of this, we will have two books come out (if everything stays on schedule) in the next few months on high stakes limit hold 'em and short handed games. So you might conclude that we concluded this was the next area that needed some work (and that's probably the case). But with both of these books they were presented to us and we did no soliciting for them. The same happened with the first two Miller books, as well as the Harrington series.

On the other hand, this is not the case with No Limit Hold 'em: Theory and Practice. On this text, I had been pushing David for some time to start putting something together on no limit.

As for the wife, neither David nor I knew anything about her until she was introduced to us by Miller.

The (former) stripper is a friend of mine, she is another friend's and quality poster here on 2+2's ex. Its purely coincidence, David was not involved but it was still a reasonable logical deduction based on recent DS discussions.
