http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/room/features/security/

An excerpt:
"To ensure this and avoid major problems described in [2], we are using two independent sources of truly random data:
- user input, including summary of mouse movements and events timing, collected from client software
- true hardware random number generator developed by Intel [3], which uses thermal noise as an entropy source"

After looking at this thread I remembered that many months ago I read something on the Poker Stars website which made me feel more secure about their online poker room.

None of this makes you more credible, but it DOES bolster the "doddering old bat that understands nothing about technology" line, so you got that going for ya.

TO GENERATE "RANDOM", someone has to write a program -
ALL PROGRAMS CAN BE "BROKE".

the latter is true. the former is not true.

random numbers can be scraped from a truly random and truly unpredictable source, like radio interference or atmospheric noise or radioactive decay.

The other day I sucked out on the flopped nut straight with a pair that turn/rivered to a full house, I still don't care if online is rigged or not. I still like playing and will continue.

Software only calculates, that is correct, so what we see as a random number is a calculation. You can determine what the sequence of numbers will be if you know both the code and the seed. In fact, this is how Secure IDs work, both the client and the host use the same software with the same seed and will thus produce the same sequence of numbers.

No, predicting what numbers will be produced requires knowing the code and determing the seed. Sometimes you can reverse engineer the seed.

What happened with the slot machines, and it was actually Keno not just slots, was that the person in charge who wrote the security software decided to start stealing. He first rigged slot machines so that the seed was changed by a sequence of events and thus a person could put coins in and change the payout ratios. Then he reversed engineered the seed for Keno after getting hold of the code.

In cases like this, there are plenty of ways for him to steal, he was in charge of software security.

As to whether B&M is safer than online, I've seen people deal where each person is deliberatly given a set of cards in order, and this is after many shuffles, and even with the top card turned face up, you can't see how the dealer is dealing the second card.

As much cheating can take place at a table as can at your computer.

I don't play on line.

I leave brick and mortar games where I recognize collusion.

I don't understand why the "house" allows collusion.

I don't understand why someone would defend playing on the internet, when it has been proven the internet involves collusion, with no recourse for the players.

Sorry you don't know about the letters that have been sent to players on the internet, who were "scammed".

I am old!

For a well thought through article regarding online problems read former 2+2 author Ed Miller aka the NPA's blog

Why would the WHINERS on 2+2 take the time to "deflect" this thread?

There are some people who have taken the time to put some indept insite into this thread.

STAY with Brandirose posts

2+2 mentality shows (check the quantity of posts from the whiners)
