if what you say about him not doing any cardio is true then he probably can't do it...also, if he does only a bit of elliptical jogging he might have trouble adjusting to real running on solid ground...but most likely he will get through the first half or so then run out of gas...

he claims he can run 5.2 miles (its the distance between a bar and his old house) in under an hour.

[/ QUOTE ]

So he suggested this route? Think he ever traveled it before?

If this guy works out and is in OK shape, you're [censored].

And if not, you're still probably [censored].

5.2 miles in an hour isn't that difficult if you are in moderately decent shape and under 40. I'd be very hesitant to take that bet.

Plus with a 2 grand swing on the line a borderline in shape person is likely going to rise to the occasion.

Yeah this is a joke. For anyone in reasonable shape, keeping a 10 minute mile pace should not be a problem at all, which still leaves him time to spare. I wouldn't make this bet with an overweight out of shape guy let alone a borderline in shape guy. You're [censored].

There's plenty of people who are "overweight" but "in shape".

I'm sure we could solidly find several straight up fatties who have >20% body fat who would smoke people in a 10k on this board alone. Being sedentary is by far the most important thing in this bet. If the kid goes and does 20min-1hr of [censored] exercise each week... he's effed.

Does he have to eat a dozen White Castles and drink a six pack of Bud heavy before he starts? If not it should be pretty doable unless he is carrying a twenty pound sack of potatoes.

Just some info...I am 6'4" 190, non-smoker and can't run the first mile in 10 minutes. The first mile in 12 minutes would just about kill me and I definitely couldn't finish without walking a large portion, I'd say 1:20 maybe if my life depended on it. I think you are vastly underestimating the difficulty but it's hard to know how much his 'working out' would help his aerobic ability, I think it is pretty close.
