It obviously doesn't matter whether they lower the "rake" by actually reducing the buy in or by adding FPP points. It equals the same money for us.

Agreed. It doesn't matter to us as winning players how the rake is cut whether it be by regular reloads, rakeback, extra FPPs, or actually reducing the rake. It does however matter for Poker Stars' bottom line.

Rakeback is out as they lose revenue from cash players who get rakeback. Not to mention it doesn't bring in fish while some of the other options will. Reloads don't look so good because they will lose revenue from cash players although getting fish depositing more often has to be good for the games and the site. Actually reducing the rake is out because you can't market that to fish. "NEW IMPROVED, LOWER RAKE. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A BETTER TIME TO PLAY AT POKER STARS." To which the fish responds "What is rake?" FPPs are a good choice because it is marketable, fish like the "comps", and it satisfies the high volume players.

The most viable choices for Poker Stars to keep high volume players happy, have a shot at motivating new and existing players to deposit, and not hurt their bottom line too much are the increased FPP rate for tournament fees and reload bonuses. I think they lean towards the FPPs because reloads will be taken advantage of by cash players as well. I don't know enough about the industry to know if this would be offset by the added draw to new players to make a deposit and existing players to deposit again or play more.

Your point about how much they lose every time someone switches to cash game is a very good one. Perhaps we should email Lee Jones with some of the ideas brought forth in this thread?

The fish do know what rake is and I think a reduction in rake, they will notice, if not bring in more.

Lowered rake doesn't motivate fish to play more or deposit again. Nifty gadgets and "free" money do that.

You're right though that the average tournament player is probably aware of the rake much moreso than a cash player.

So better super-VIP bonuses. Right now supernovas get about 30% back. If the super high-end players started getting 65% back (say on SNGs only) it would have the same effect as halving the rake. Everybody wins. I believe PS is talking about something along these lines right?
