what do you know about hamilton watches? are they as good a value as they seem (assuming you don't care about them not being swiss)? i've already got a few swiss models, and am looking for something a little different as a dress watch..

Ebay - new or used. Do your homework - find someone in the business of selling watches, look at feedback, look for paperwork, and use a payment method that allows you recourse if there is a problem.

Fakes aren't too hard to spot once you know what you're looking for.

Edit - never buy from Asia or Canada.

Quality wristwatches are supposed to have quality automatic movements made in-house. And anyone who seriously believes a tag heuer is a quality wristwatch and not a just a quality marketing campaign surely can't take themselves seriously.

If you're going expensive get a patek or a vacheron or an IWC or a blancpain or a breguet (they are seriously cool) and in the cheap and cheerful range, get an oris or a used omega constellation if you want a high quality watch. If you're thinking about buying a quartz watch, buy a casio and get a jeweller to add some bling.

why do people like watches with all those extra funky dials on them

i think they look stupid

and you keep saying [censored] like "its a piece of jewelry not a timepiece." who cares. we just want something that looks sweet, we don't care if we have to change the battery once a year.

Oh no, a negative comment on TAG Heuer.

Since I like the way this watch looks, I guess my question would be does it even offer good value for its price in the "non-quality wristwatch" category?

I go for classic balla with no fancy dials etc...

Dream watch:
Platinum Rolex, ice blue dial, roman numerals, coined bezel, jubilee platinum strap, no diamonds. (Can anyone post a good quality pic?)

Zenith over Breitling FTW

Zeniths are @#$@# awesome, just plain beautiful. I'd have one in rose gold + leather strap as my secondary formal watch beside the Rolex.

Since I don't have $50-75k total to spend on a watch though, the ones I wear have similar traits listed above and in stainless steel obv.
