I don't follow stud.

But there is so much action going on and so many tables that IF there is going to be a time of year when bigger cash 7-stud is going then this would be it.

YTF might be able to answer your Q better if you gave an idea of the stakes you are hoping for.

Have you tried the Grand Casino for rooms? Guess it's possible for them to be sold-out already for 'outsiders' (lack of a better term) but they just sent me a coupon for 2 free nights between Sun-Thur in Jan.

Also try various hotels on Goodman Road in Southaven, MS which should be only about 20 minutes away.

Also -

Mon, Jan 10, 12p - Event 5, Limit 7-card stud, $500+50
Wed, Jan 12, 12p - Event 7, Limit 7-card stud Hi/Lo, $500+50

Horseshoe will always have 1-5 7 card stud game going between about 1 Pm and midnight. On the Weekends the Grand has at least 1 2-10 game going. I imagine during the tournament ALL poker will be available.

Finding a room ? Try Sams Town they usually have rooms as might Ballys, Resorts and Hollywood. I cant imagine all those places being booked. Good luck hope to see you there.

yeah, when he said 'decent 7-stud' I was assuming he meant higher than 1-5. but I could be wrong and that's why I thought it would be best for him to be a bit more specific.

Thanks for the info guys. This trip is starting to look more do-able, as I'm finding some rooms available at Harrah's properties, and with plenty of golf nearby I can see me playing poker from about 8PM-3AM, sleeping till noon and still getting in 18 holes before it gets dark every day I'm there. Nirvana, baby!

As for 7-stud cash games, I was hoping to find $10/20 or $15/30 being spread, or even $5/10. I guess if I can at least find a juicy $2/10 game, the trip will be worth it for me. But if all they have are those rock-garden $1/5 games, I can go to Vegas for those!

I would have to think there would be other mid-stakes stud fans like yourself but I really don't know.

January does tend to be kind of cold sometimes. Golf may not be an option of course.

Sorry. I have no idea what to expect come January. January is a time where I stay away from the poker rooms as much as possible (I get antsy and claustrophobic in crowds).

My only experience with January poker in Tunica is from when I used to work at the Grand. I never went to the other card rooms--and what happened in past January's at the Grand have no bearing on what might happen there this year. Anything goes.

Two things I can help with:

--Yes, if you're staying in Southaven or Horn Lake, you do not want to take Goodman Rd (Rt 302). Instead, you want to take I-55 south to to I-69, which will take you right to the north entrance of the Grand.

--It's been 20 degrees above normal all winter so far. Forecast calls for a high of 71 today, and 73 tomorrow. My point: don't give up on golf just yet.

Wahoo, LOL, I wish we had something better than 1-5 bro but it ain't happening!!! Sorry.

The Goldstrike is having a Stud Hi & Stud 8 tournament this year ($500 buy in). I also believe from what the dealers there tell me, they do spread a higher limit stud game on the side if there's any interest during tourney time.

Brad-

Well regardless of the 7 card stud cash games (or lack thereof), it looks like I'm going to play in the WPO stud event on January 7th. Will you be there that week? If so, maybe we can meet.

Wahoo,

Yeah, I'll be around. That's my hometown. I live about 30 min from there now. I play at the Goldstrike and/or Horseshoe about every weekend. I haven't decided if I'll play in the events or not. I'm not much on tournaments & its hard for me to take off work to play also. But I'm looking forward to the cash games...they are friggin juicy the whole month. Lots o' gambooooling.

I'm hoping that the Goldstrike or Horseshoe will spread some higher limit stud games than the 1-5 that we usually have because the wait for a holdem cash game can be pretty long. Nothing like a bunch of holdem players sitting in a stud game while they're waiting...
