Re: Driving/traffic question
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I usually pull right out into the intersection but if opposing traffic is heavy I stop at the line and start inching out when there appears to be a gap coming. [/ QUOTE ] Exactly what I do too, and I can't see how this isn't the correct answer. [/ QUOTE ] Because if there is never a gap, you could end up waiting ten lights to get through. If you're the first car, you have to pull into the intersection and turn left when the light is yellow/red. You can't do that from the line and try to turn left after the light has turned yellow or you'll be in an accident. |

Re: Driving/traffic question
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] There is absolutely no reason to turn left at the first chance. The only people that are benefitting are the people near the end who are questionable to get in on the left turn light. You're taking 100% of the risk to carve a few seconds. [/ QUOTE ] You apparently don't understand the question. EDIT TO MY HIJACK-POLL: If you see this sign: The traffic light is green, however, your left turn arrow is red. There is no oncoming traffic, do you turn left? [/ QUOTE ] No, I go straight through the intersection, pull a Uturn and then make a right hand turn. |

Re: Driving/traffic question
The thing I like most about this thread: everyone's an expert (myself included).
Not one post includes the words, "I'm not sure, but I think..." EDIT: For some reason, I'm not allowed to edit my earlier post in this thread. If I could, I would amend it to disclose that I've never lived in a big city, strictly the suburbs for me. I've never waited at the line, and failed to get through on this green light or the next. After reading the thread, it is now obvious to me that my patience at the line would evaporate after missing a cycle or two. |

Re: Driving/traffic question
This is the case in Dallas as well. If it's rush-hour or near a mall on a weekend, pretty much every red-light gets run by somebody.
