one more addendum. what he had (and showed) is apart of his bluffing hands. He must, therefore, call light on the flop - since you have most of the 8s, we'll classify that as the 9s - he must then semibluff it on the turn - then bluff the river. a jack, which may play that way, will take the showdown on the river. better hands then that, like 2 pair, which you beat, typically take the showdown, because there is such a limited amount of hands that MIGHT fold if they bet.

if i was in a groove im sure i could find a way to value bet AJ here (in villains shoes) but most of the time a bet here is a straight or (small %) flush, and rarely (and the odds you have are NOT good enough to call) the type of bluff it was

Interesting the differences in opinions on this hand, especially given the amount of strong players on each side of the fence.

hells yes

this is such a straight line

reason why someone like that would bet so little on the turn is they figure hero is drawing dead, and will fold to a bigger bet, and want some $ from their nuts.

Wtf are you callers talking about here? Why should the straight be afraid of spades when you're showing so much weakness? They were [censored] runner-runner, it doesn't take a genius to value-bet here. I know the results contradict me, but this is a folfoldfold.

bobo, betting 1/3 pot on a hit straight is straightforward? if this is a flush draw, okay, but on river such a weak bet ?

imo his river play would be fine with a straight. ae made the solid, good laydown, but most people would pay that off. which is why that is a good bet size - people would feel inclined to pay to see what is almost always a T
