[ QUOTE ] Defense: Comparing QBs from that era to this era is retarded. [/ QUOTE ] Because receivers back then had to wear boxing gloves and DBs got to catch off the bounce? [/ QUOTE ] His stats do look ugly, but compare his seasons to others of his era and he's constantly among the league leaders. |

[ QUOTE ] If Harry Carson is in the HOF, there is no way Curtis Martin doesn't belong. [/ QUOTE ] Harry Carson >>>> Joe Namath [/ QUOTE ] First of all, if any man deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, it's Joe Namath. Second, although his numbers don't look pretty by modern standards, he won two MVP awards, rookie of the year, super bowl mvp and was named to 5 pro bowls(incl. 4 in his first 5 seasons before his career was derailed by injuries). |

Curtis will get in, and probably deserves it.
But when I think of Curtis Martin, HOF'er is not what comes to mind. A steady back with great character is what comes to mind. |

Since 2000, 29 players have been elected to the Pro Football HoF who played after the Hall of Fame started electing players (most of them well after).
Since 2000, 12 players have been elected to the Baseball HoF. I obviously excluded negro league inductees. 32 football teams x 53 roster spots = 1696 29 / 1696 = 0.017 30 baseball teams x 25 roster spots = 750 12 / 750 = 0.016 If you look at starters only (22 + kicker + Punter) for football), (8 + 5 starting pitchers + closer + 1/2 DH) 29 / 768 = 0.038 12 / 435 = 0.028 So based on roster sizes, they are both equally selective, but based on starting players, baseball has a slight edge in selectivity. |

you're still ignoring the "catching up" effect, and the fact that injuries cut HOF talent careers short.

Also, will probably be eligible the same year as Bettis. Who is more deserving? [/ QUOTE ] CuMar played 2 less years than Bettis while gaining 439 more rushing yards and 1880 more receiving yards. Martin scored 100 career TDs to Bettis's 94. Martin also had a higher YPC. |

I didn't read this thread but he is a no brainer 100% lock for the HOF.
