Re: Soriano rejects 5/70 from Nats
If you're a 31 year old left fielder and you're not a really good defender yet, you're never going to be one. Maybe he can learn the position enough to continue being a roughly average defender throughout his contract, but by the end of it he's going to be Craig Monroe.

Re: Soriano rejects 5/70 from Nats
Thank God we decided we were going to build the franchise by getting into a bidding war over an overrated free agen instead of trading him at his max value. Good times.

[ QUOTE ] he's fast athletic and has a great arm... he can develop into a really good defender [/ QUOTE ] Yea, that's worked very well for him the last 8 seasons... [/ QUOTE ] HE STARTED PLAYING OUTFIELD IN MARCH.... what does a strong arm and the ability to run down a fly ball have to do with second base. There is gonna be a shiz load of money spent this offseason on outfielders. I would have said about 12 million a year a few weeks ago. And to compare him to adrian beltre is ridiculous. Beltre took steroids in his contract year and then went back to the player he was. Yes Soriano had a great year and might do a little worse next year. no reason to compare him to beltre tho. |

He has all the skills to be a great outfielder, and obviously the nats think he can develop into a good fielder. |

Rumor has it Hampton was looking good throwing BP at the end of the season. Maybe he'll actually get a start and some wins next year. [/ QUOTE ] I think it's more likely he might get a few pinch opportunities or maybe play some 1B of LF in garbage time. |

What's likely is by the time he gets his instincts down to really learn the position, he won't be able to fulfill his potential there because his speed will slip. |

[ QUOTE ] 12 Chan Ho Park San Diego Padres $15,333,679 rofl [/ QUOTE ] that contract has to be still around since like 2001. i dont see how that salary is real. scary. [/ QUOTE ] If you go to http://www.baseball-reference.com/p/parkch01.shtml, you'll see that his salary got a huge bump in 2003, coincidentally a season in which he pitched 29 innings. |

Re: Soriano rejects 5/70 from Nats
[ QUOTE ]
Is Pujols the only player on the list worth more than his salary? [/ QUOTE ] Berkman, Manny, Jeter, and A-Rod are probably getting paid pretty close to what he deserves. Again it depends on how much teams are willing to spend. Also salaries have deflated a lot in the past couple years so a lot of the contracts are older. Keep in mind teh Yankees spending habits when you factor in Jeter and A-Rod. |
