These where just taken with a crappy Fuji Finepix 2800 (2mp) camera. I was going to pick up something new before the trip, but didn't want to dip into my Canon 30d fund, so we just made due.

Not bad for a 5 year old camera though...

How are white people treated in Shanghai? Is it anything like Degen posted about Thailand?

Thanks for any responses.

I wasn't quite the King of the World, but close.

Basically, I was treated very very well by the locals. In restraunts, I would get my fair share of stares, but never did I feel like I was being 'stared at', even though I was. Everyone was just real curious...

Then as I described above, there would be times, like at the wholesale market, when we would literally get mobbed by people, but they would never do any more then tap my shoulder, where they felt much more free to tug and pull on my wife.

I was going to ask if you made it to any "Barbershops", but then I saw the wife thing. Awesome town. Looks a little cooler than when I was there in August. Ugh. Also if you missed the fried potstickers from a good street vendor you were missing out.

lol, she pointed out a few 'barbershops' for me, but only because she knew I wouldn't go

none of them looked to provide the services she described, but I guess that is the point

Ouch...August...Yeah, a little cooler

Did you hit the wholesale market?? (Qi Pu Market)

Didn't hit the market, at least that I can remember (1.5 years ago, not this year). I was with my Mom, Aunt and uncle and some other friends and family on an organized tour of China. Our last day in Shanghai was a free day.

I went up into one of the towers, then wandered the town taking pictures. I did happen to - ahem - stumble into a barbershop in the French Concession. Pure serendipity I swear. What I got was a giggly 3-girl "special massage" for the grand total of $20. Very relaxing. I remember thinking if I had something like that on my way to work in the morning I'd never get into it with my boss again. Probably a good thing that option isn't available in LA.

I didn't really get any pics that I liked in the French Concession, which was a shame because I was hoping for some cool shots of someone's wash hanging from an old colonial mansion. But two of my favorite pics from the whole trip are night shots in Shanghai. They're on the front page - http://synergizethis.com/ChinaTrip.html.

Crazy, high-energy town. I think it would be a blast to live there for a year or two. And not just for the haircuts.

Can someone elaborate on these barbershops?
