[ QUOTE ]
I guess it hinges on why compassion is the default, rather than indifference.

[/ QUOTE ]

To a large degree it does.

[ QUOTE ]
It's a pretty immature viewpoint imo. It can be a good way to break out of the belief system you're born into, but eventually turns into self-pitying narcissism. That existence has meaning is self-evident from a subjective viewpoint (which is all we have).

[/ QUOTE ]
I don't think it's immature viewpoint at all.

From a subjective viewpoint you may find meaning in existence, but if you try to look at the bigger picture the less meaning an individual (or human race or our solar system) has.

And if all you have is a subjective viewpoint, you should realize that you're everything that matters as when you die from your viewpoint everything else dies too.

[ QUOTE ]

The simple truth that you desire to live (proven by the fact that you are alive) lends meaning to your experience and thus to your existence.

[/ QUOTE ]
I don't have a desire to live (as in being alive) but I have a desire to experience and I need to be alive to do so.
