[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Drinking to get rid of hangover is a slippery slope to alcoholism. [/ QUOTE ] This is very very true, although I think it's very possible to be an alcoholic and not drink off hangovers too. [/ QUOTE ] Well, yeah. Also, the slippery slope thing is correct, but at first it's very gradual and then it's like a free-fall. I think my biggest mistake was having booze around at home. For many years I was a good social drinker, then I'd come home and crash. Well, then I'd buy a bottle at Costco and have a drink now and then. Over the course of years that would accelerate, and there came a time when I realize I'd literally gone months without having a single drink-free day. Having 2-4 drinks when I got home was standard. I didn't even think about it. That's when it drifted into 2-3 day weekend benders. The worst part is I'd become a social shut-in; the drinking that which was once a social activity was now an excuse to be anti-social. Not sure where I'm going with this but to agree with both of your comments, and wonder about a question brought up in the whiskeytown thread: can someone with obvious signs of a drinking problem revert back to occasional (social) use, or must it be given up for good? I'd guess the answer for most is it's game over, but I imagine that's not universal. Mostly I was hoping for some anecdotal evidence. For me, I've racheted my drinking way back but am not sure whether that's good enough. |

Who cares about what time you start to drink? If you can drink when having a hangover it isn't even that bad, trust me .
Ps. A few shots of vodka will do just fine. |

[ QUOTE ]
Drinking isn't going to make your hangover better, lol. Drink some water. Or if you want to get drunk drink. But don't expect it to make your hangover go away. [/ QUOTE ] QFBTW (Quoted for being totally wrong) Drinking is the only sure way to cure your hang over. A hang over is literally cold turkey from alcohol. Add alcohol and hey presto no more hangover. You will have to drink a certain amount. Also, you must achieve a certain balance, drink the right amount and you can mitigate this hang over today and wake up with a weaker/no hang over tomorrow. Drink to much and your hang over will disappear only to return with a vengeance tomorrow. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] don't start drinking, just eat some xanax [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] can't echo quote this enough... 2 xanax = 5~10 dollars, more fun (due to loss of inhibition) no DWI failures, and no hangovers 12~18 beers= 30-100 dollars (depending on where you drink) and severe toxicology over the long term |

Very easy...make friends with anyone working in the kitchen of any casual dining chain restaurant and you will have access to whatever behind the counter meds you wish for.
It's a shame that you can get obliterated at any bar in America but not have a couple of xanax and experience the same effects without the much severe side effects that alcoholics suffer from. Granted, moderation here is key, just as with drinking. The "experience" if you will is anxiolytic, and will take the edge off a bad day much more efficiently than a couple of stiff jack on the rocks will, and you wont risk: -DWI -The capacity to act like an obnoxious drunk -Taking out your frustrations on your spouses/loved ones -Cirrhosis (sp?) It is also prescribed for those with social anxiety, which is precisely why many people get tanked at bars, to lower inhibitions in the face of social anxiety. Like any medication, drug, or food, dependency is an issue. Addiction is a disease, so if you are prone to addiction in general, xanax may be another pathway to addictive behaviors. However, it is not nearly as bad as: Cigarettes, ,crack, cocaine, methamphetamine, herion, all other opiods (from oxycontin to codeine cough syrup) and other, stronger sedatives (phenobarbitol for example). |
