then he's only FREAKING 18 and easily go on with his life [/ QUOTE ] I don't think so, I think he then becomes obsessed with it, goes into debt, and turns into the many other desperate gamblers that we all have heard about or seen. We're not saying don't try it, were saying that he isn't going to get the results he's looking for. So he shouldn't drop his entire future because he's on a 60 game heater. We're just giving him the cold-hard truth, he isn't as good as he thinks he is. If he studies the game and plays it in his free-time, then he will be much better off. And it's not a dead-end job if he's 17. |

Listen, no one on this board means to put you down. We understand you're seventeen, and if people are being a little hard on you, it's because they want to help you. Personally I think you need to follow whatever makes you happy. Just try to stay grounded about this poker thing. If you really want to learn, I think you're gonna need some kind of side income as you work your way up. Try to find something that doesn't suck so bad and maybe pays a little better. If you're smart enough to be a pro poker player, you should be smart enough to do a LOT of things that pay better than $6/hr.
And you do know it's "cart" right? |

here is my 2 cents:
1. Work a few more months, and try and save up 1500. 2. purchase pokertracker ( dont be stingy now ) 3. Quit your job, or if you can, try taking only 1 or 2 shifts a week. 4. study study study. Use roughly 70% of your time playing and 30% studying the game. 5. Play 300 of the 11s (2-Tabling). Experiment with your game, dont be afraid to lose money. Try and apply what you studied, and see what works for you. Review your hand histories every other day. 6. Play 100 more 3 tabling. 7. Play 100 more 4 tabling. 8. If all goes well, move up to the 22s. 9. quit your job for good. *most important thing is treat it like a real profession. Like a previous poster said, if you're serious about it, then you must act like your serious. *Put in the time and effort. By the time you get good (if you get good), discipline in putting in the hours needed is the biggest factor in your profit margin. And of course, be ready to lose like you never lost before, no matter how good you are, cuz you WILL go on a bad streak during which you'll start doubting your skills. Be prepared to finish OOTM 15/20tourneys, 30/40, 10-15 straight, you get the idea. - good luck !! |

The fact that you needed to post this means you're not ready to play poker professionally. Of course, you won't believe me and you'll go it anyway. I did the same thing when I was your age.
It's sad to watch someone's life turn into something as pitiful as mine and not be able to stop it. |

I wouldn't go pro if I couldn't 8-table with ease and make a very good ROI doing it.
If you're at the two-table limit, either you're unusually limited, or very inexperienced. Makes no difference at all, not even a little. Still an indication that you're way out of your depth. Plus, only able to play 1 or 2 SNG's? What are you, a brain surgeon on call at the hospital or something? That's pretty half-assed. Get 2000 SNG's under your belt, and the ability to at least 4-table, before you even consider poker other than a hobby. And at 1 or 2 SNG's a day, it barely qualifies as that. |
