Re: Acoustic singer/songwriter music
Howie Day was amazing when he toured colleges alone.
His use of loop pedals to layer both his guitar lines and vocals is pioneer stuff. His studio albums and band work isn't as strong. Thankfully you can download bootlegs of almost all of his shows. He actually engourages bootlegging and fans sharing his music. |

M. Ward - not known to many, but has recently gained recognition by playing on stage with Bright Eyes and My Morning Jacket, who have both appeared on his albums. He will be opening for Norah Jones this spring/summer (although their music is very different). Incredible live.

Re: Acoustic singer/songwriter music
If you even sort of like country the album "dwightyoakamacoustic.net" (by dwight yoakam obv) is one of my all time favorites. its funny that him or the record company doesn't even own that domain though, i think they did, but now a squatter has it.

Kevin Devine - he's a singer/songwriter living in brooklyn - used to be in an indie band called miracle of 86 and now is on his own.
also, whoever said that fire and wine covered postal service's such great heights - i think you have it backwards. im 95% sure its a fire and wine song that postal service (and many others including ben folds) covered. |

Re: Acoustic singer/songwriter music
Adam Carroll On of the best young songwriters I've heard in a while. The link is to his myspace, check out "The Girl With the Dirty Hair" and "The Last Day of Grace"
Townes Van Zandt Probably the best American songwriter that ever lived. If you don't know who he is, go buy some of his stuff, immedately. [ QUOTE ] Townes Van Zandt's music doesn't jump up and down, wear fancy clothes, or beat around the bush. Whether he was singing a quiet, introspective country-folk song or a driving, hungry blues, Van Zandt's lyrics and melodies were filled with the kind of haunting truth and beauty that you knew instinctively. His music came straight from his soul by way of a kind heart, an honest mind, and a keen ear for the gentle blend of words and melody. He could bring you down to a place so sad that you felt like you were scraping bottom, but just as quickly he could lift your spirits and make you smile at the sparkle of a summer morning or a loved one's eyes -- or raise a chuckle with a quick and funny talking blues. The magic of his songs is that they never leave you alone. [/ QUOTE ] |
