LOL,

Did they nail the guy who did this?

[/ QUOTE ]

He turned himself in after hiding out for about 3 days to get whatever was in his system out of his system and after he took his Jeep Grand Cherokee to the body shop, telling them that he had hit a deer to explain the presence of tissue on the front of the car. They got suspicious when he asked them to fix it quick, money no object and no insurance claim.

I was reminded of this nasty little frat boy when I read ZJ's self-serving little "quest" proposal. Frat Boy and his family actually suggested to the judge that he be allowed to do community service consisting of arranging for a tennis clinic for underprivileged kids to feature a couple of lesser known guys from the pro tennis circuit who were friends of frat boy's little brother, also a lesser known person on the pro tennis circuit. (This is not to equate the seriousness of frat boy's transgression--taking the life of another human being and showing no remorse--with ZJ's little cheating escapade. But the sheer cluelessness and self-centeredness and unwillingness to admit having done anything wrong....) Anyway I made a to-do in the paper and the tv stations chimed in and the DA (Harry Connick sr.) pressed for some kind of punishment. So nasty little frat boy went to Orleans Parish Prison for 6 months which I gather he didn't enjoy. His other punishments (community service, house arrest, fine and reimbursement of family expenses) were later waived by the judge when no one was looking (except me).

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but this kid killed a cop and only got 6 months? This doesn't seem possible.

[/ QUOTE ]

His parents had a whole lot of money, and they spread it around to make the mess go away. And it would have gone away, except that I made a big issue in the press. The judge, among others, was pissed off at me for calling public attention to the matter. The kid expected to walk, and thanks to me, he didn't.

Someone else covered this one already. I've yet to try it, but my friends have had very good luck with pretending they're about to crap themselves. Who can't identify with that?

I speak fluent arabic and have an arab name so the two times I have been pulled over I just pretended I couldnt speak english and had a relative translate for me who was helpin me out and got away. Other than that I just use my radar, it has saved me countless times!

I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention, it won't happen again.

Seriously, cops who pull you over for speeding just want their little moment of power. Give it to them and you have a chance to avoid paying $50 or whatever. No excuse or other method will work.

[/ QUOTE ]

$50? Where do you live, South Dakota?

[/ QUOTE ]

15 over is 120 in South Dakota.

Wow what weird timing for this thread. I was just pulled over tonight for the first time in at least four years. My tags just expired; a long snail mail back-and-forth between me and the DMV is the issue. There are a series of signals in Scottsdale that are infuriating, and the only way to get the next one is to go aggressive at it.

Problem is, I didn't realize there was a cop one car back in the next lane who got a clear view of my plate when I did this. He pulled me over.

I was coming out of a happy hour. In two hours, I had three margaritas and two beers. The margs were weak pours, that's why I had three. He couldn't tell if I was impaired and in fact didn't even ask if I had been drinking. BUT, with expired tags, I expected the worst. Instead, he let me off with a warning and a "just go down to the DMV and deal with this". He was very friendly the whole time. Way more than I deserved. [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

FYI, I pulled well off the main drag into a neigborhood, turned my driver dome light on, crossed my hands over the wheel, and was very polite. It seemed to work.

Ok.. Standard 15 over in a 50-55 mile an hour zone. You get pulled over. He tells you you were speeding. What's your play to avoid the fine?

[/ QUOTE ]

Q: Are you aware you were speeding?

Correct Answer: Yes, I'm really really sorry.

Incorrect Answer: No, I didn't realize it.

Incorrect Answer: No, I wasn't speeding.

Doesn't guarantee you'll get out of a ticket, but from the cops I've spoken too, thats the most likely thing you can say for them to not write it to you (shows you're being honest with them and are apologetic).

I've tried everything listed in this thread at least once (short of pissing myself), and so far I've managed to get out of ZERO tickets. I'm one-for-one in court, since purchasing the e-book at www.beatmyspeedingticket.com, so I'm now prepared to fight every speeding ticket I get from here on out.

Wait, there was one time where I was let go "with a warning", but it was not due to any cleverness on my part.

I was driving through Nagadoches, Texas. They had the entire police force out that day, pulling over almost every car on the road for something. For the first time in my life, I decided to drive 40 mph in a 50 zone. I stayed in the right lane.

I came up over a hill, and saw three different cars pulled over by three different police units. Wow, I thought. I've never seen anything like this. I moved into the left lane, to give the officers on the side of the road plenty of room. After I got past the last one, I moved back into the right lane.

BAM! Blue lights in my mirror. I can't believe this. I'm going 10 mph UNDER the speed limit, I'm not driving erratically, and I'm being stopped.

"Do you know why I pulled you over?"

"I honestly have no idea."

"You changed lanes back there twice, and you didn't use your signal."

"OMG. I only changed lanes because I was worried for the safety of the cops on the side of the road. You're going to ticket me for that?"

He ran my plates and license, and when everything checked out, he let me off. He didn't even ask to look in the cooler in the back seat (he wouldn't have found alcohol, anyways).

I'm quite certain I'm the only guy who went through Nagadoches that day who didn't get a ticket.

I have found "Awww..put the bullet back into your pocket, Barney" creates an instant bond between you and the police officer.

I think the most incorrect answer is to tell the cop that you thought the speedlimit was higher.

Ie: you were going to 65 in a 50...
I tought it was a 65 zone.
