True, but throughout his career he had 7 seasons of 40+ out of the 23 seasons he played. [/ QUOTE ] Three of those Seven 40+ HR seasons after age 35. |

Aaron was also aided in playing his later years in ATL Fulton County stadium vs Bonds playing in prolly THE toughest park to hit home runs. [/ QUOTE ] I appreciate the Park Effects as related to home run production, I really do. I just don't make the heaping leap of logic to use them as conclusive evidence that someone used steroids. |

One thing no one seems to mention Babe Ruth was an arshole also and considered to be a jerk. Now we look at him as one of the greatest. I doubt Babe Ruth could even play in todays game. Steroids are not one of the greatest hitters but I still thing he's a jerk Next Question

Home Run Totals 35 and beyond
Aaron Age 35:44 Age 36:38 Age 37:47 Age 38:34 Age 39:40 Age 40:20 Bonds Age 35:49 Age 36: 73!!! Age 37:46 Age 38:45 Age 39:45 Age 40: 42 AB's 5 HR's I think it has got to be the 73 number that really works against him...thats just utterly ridiculous. edit:maybe if that 73 was something like 44 I'd be singing a different tune, but you can't deny that it really casts a suspicious shadow over everything he did in those years. Generally, where there's smoke there's fire, and that's a WHOLE LOTTA smoke. |

Agreed. That just makes what Bonds has done all the more impressive (Candlestick + PAC?!). |

I'm sorry but looking back on this thread I can't help but feel that this is warranted (I'm very guilty too)...

Why not do the totals for others suspected of juicing like sosa and mcgwire? [/ QUOTE ] Okay, let's do that! Sammy Sosa Ages 30-34: 53 HRs per year Ages 35-36*: 25 HRs per year (*retired age 37) 50% DECREASE!! Career High: Age 29 Mark McGwire Ages 31-34: 55 HRs per year Ages 35-37: 42 HRs per year (retired age 38) 25% DECREASE!! Carrer High: Age 34 Production decreased ages 35-39 from ages 30-34: Caminiti, Canseco, McGwire and Sosa. Production *increased* ages 35-39 from ages 30-34: Bonds and Aaron. Career High before age 35: Canseco, Caminiti, McGwire, Sosa Career High after age 35: Bonds and Aaron. So much for the theory that an increase in production after age 35 can only be accomplished through steroids! Aaron did it, and known steroid users had the OPPOSITE EFFECT!! Bonds stats closely mirror Aarons in this regard, and completely run opposite of known steroid users!!! |

Yes, 73 was amazing. At that time, 60 was even moreso in relation to what other guys were hitting at that time, and in and of itself an amazing total does not immedietaly mean "something must be up". If that is the logic, then you must surely think the Babe cheated, huh? I surely hope not! |

[ QUOTE ] And for reference, let's look at admitted steroid users comparative numbers, and see how they fared after age 35: Ken Caminiti ages 30-34: 24 HRs per year ages 35-38: 18 HRs per year 25% decrease. Career High: Age 33 !! Jose Canseco ages 30-34: 31 HRs per year ages 35-36: 13 HRs per year 58% decrease. Career High: Age 33 !!! [/ QUOTE ] This stuff right here means nothing. Ever hear of injuries? And Jose was on roids when he was 30...so...wtf? As was Caminitti I believe. [/ QUOTE ] prohorn, a lot of those injuries were likely steroid residue |

What is your point? My point is that this guy isn't taking into account games played in those seasons. |
