But I've seen things you people wouldn't believe,
fought 15 Fulham supporters single-handed and knocked one spark out,
watched a one-armed skinhead fight 6 coppers at once...

Soccer fans are a completely different matter. I would feel much safer playing soccer than watching it.

May I suggest we put a group of English Football supporters in a room with a group of American Football supporters, and what gets decided in this room be a suitable mechanism to evaluate who is right or wrong here?

If you think "footy" somehow compares to football in terms of contact... watch this video that was posted over in sporting events earlier today. These are mostly "classic" hits that took place when players were a quite a bit smaller. When these hits take place now the players are bigger/stronger/faster.

Video

Oh, and if you think the injury in that picture you posted was painful, check out the last ~5 or so seconds of this video.

Okay, I dunno why I joined in, the comparison is dumb.

It's pretty obvious this is apples and oranges. If you wanna compare real contact sports, American Football and Rugby are the better comparisons.

Rugby - I've seen a back broken and a thigh bone snapped in play. And that was playing in school games, aged 12-14.

I personally bit off part my own lip when I was hard-shouldered in a tackle, and when I staggered to a sink to wash the blood out of my mouth, got punished by a teacher for coming into the building in boots. The front of my shirt was soaked in blood at the time.

It's also common to rake your metal boot-studs down the thigh of a floored opponent on the way to stamping on his bollocks. This is all pre-15 year-olds playing. The adult game is a lot rougher. Ears get ripped off and [censored].

So tell me, is American Football that hard?

This guy would be a great alternative to Ray Lewis.
