Re: jeter overrated? say it ain\'t so?
[ QUOTE ]
Please, A-Rod is so un-clutch it's not even funny. I mean, when was the last time he's had a game winning hit? [/ QUOTE ] Wasn't the whole concept of clutch thrown out a few years back when a study showed that being clutch (hitting well with runners on base) was just variance? For instance, the most 'clutch' hitter one year would invariably find himself in the middle of the pack the next year. |

Re: jeter overrated? say it ain\'t so?
[ QUOTE ]
PS: A-Rod probably is overrated, to some degree, in the sense that many feel he's going to end up as the best SS of all time, yadda yada. He's also pretty underrated, too, with all the not clutch talk... [/ QUOTE ] Had he stayed there would he end up being the best of all time assuming consistant production? |

This is where someone thinks you're serious, lols, calls you an idiot, and says last night. Then some other idiot comes along and points out that it's May and it's the Devil Rays. [/ QUOTE ] Oops, I took it as a serious post. Oh well, my point still remains. There's still altogether too much talk about being clutch in this post. |

There is a pretty small, hard to find ability to be "clutch." Google Andy Dolphin.

Depends on how you view baseball in the early 1900s. Do you think the bigger results on the field by Honus is dwarfed by the better competition A-Rod plays against?

Re: jeter overrated? say it ain\'t so?
[ QUOTE ]
how is jeter overrated? He's a complete player who seems to come through more in the clutch than Arod does. He is a more than adequate fielder at SS-I don't care what the UZR metrics say, they are WRONG)- a fantastic bunter, base stealer, base runner, can hit to all fields, and is the emotional and mental leader of the Yankees He's the Captain. [/ QUOTE ] Jeter is overrated because he is a good player not a great player. But as history has shown being a good player for the Yankees makes you great. If Jeter played for the Royals or the Indians he wouldn't be overrated. |

Re: jeter overrated? say it ain\'t so?
A-Rod to Honus is kinda like Barry to Williams. Williams has all the numbers, but A-Rod has the argument that he played in a much tougher era. Honus's era was, of course, worse than Teddy Ballgame's but the difference between Honus/A-Rod is bigger than Ted/Barry.

Jeter is overrated because he is a good player not a great player. But as history has shown being a good player for the Yankees makes you great. If Jeter played for the Royals or the Indians he wouldn't be overrated. [/ QUOTE ] One could argue that Jeter essentially made the modern Yankees what they are through his mass appeal and marketability. In that sense he is very far from overrated. I'm sure he's created far more revenue for the Yankees than he has cost them. |

I'm sure he's created far more revenue for the Yankees than he has cost them. [/ QUOTE ] Sorry, this has nothing to do with his marketability. It has to due with his production on the field. |
