If I want to buy something like VWESX (vanguard fixed income) can I do that over something like etrade or do I need to open a vanguard account? |

[/ QUOTE ] You can only purchase Vanguard index funds if you have a Vanguard account. However, the way around it is to buy the ETFs version of the Vanguard index funds. |

ftse100 down 3.4% at the moment. thank [censored] i've got $80k in savings account and only investment in the markets is a $10k in a tax free emerging markets fund.
thanks also for the book recommendations, ill check them out on amazon. i generally prefer books which involve someone having a financial disaster, i prefer books where people take huge gambles and lose rather than win, any books like that out there? |

Gains on assets held for less than one year are taxed as ordinary income tax which may or may not be higher than 15% depending on your specific tax situation. |
