Some players aren't 7 feet 300+ pound oversized freaks.

Try shooting free throws with a mini basketball into a mini hoop sometime.

[/ QUOTE ]

This isnt a good excuse. There are players who are as big as Shaq who shoot 70%.

[/ QUOTE ]

Dirk is pretty big, so was Magic. Both good free throw shooters.

Also if it was my job to put that mini-basketball into a hoop I would make it happen.

[/ QUOTE ]

Gary Boren, the DAL FT shooting coach, was brought in to "coach" Shaq. He told him his shot was too flat. Shaq didn't listen to his advice.

[/ QUOTE ]

They also brought in Kareem(I think) to help Shaq shoot better free throws. Shaq wanted no part of it. It boggles my mind to think that they will just ignore this aspect of the game.

Lol at all the learnable skill crowds. Yes, Shaq hasn't worked on free throws at all throughout his career or realized he sucks at them. He has probably put no effort into this and also doesn't realize how much better he would be if he was more accurate from the line.

Give me a break...

Maybe because after a decade plus of trying a million different ways to improve his shooting, doing well in practice, and always sucking in games he eventually gave up and stopped trying to improve?

Okay Boren was in 1994, so I guess I deserve some crow for that.

I've often heard that he does very well in practice though, is there any truth to that?

Good point. There's no way that there's an athlete with a guaranteed contract would ever give less than 110%.

Yao can shoot, Shaq cannot. It's real simple. Why couldn't Rodman shoot? Why can't Ben Wallace shoot? Why can't Bruce Bowen shoot?

I am 5 feet 10 and white, surely I should be able to make 90% of my free throws and 50% of my 3's in game day situations, right?

Hell, Duncan can knock down the wide open jumper from the ft line, but he can't hit a ft.

Duncan is so much better of an example and it's not even close. In 2001 he shot 80% from the line! WTF happened? I could be wrong but I remember him being very good in college too.
