Re: Science quiz linktarding
Got an 80 - the ones I missed were mostly stupid fact-based ones ( meteorites, which planet is all gas (though I narrowed this down to 2), which rock is underground, etc).
I don't think I missed any that were actual common sense. |

-daryn sorry if it seems nitty, but guess i am used to working on well defined problems. i guess its normal in physics (at the introductory level at least) to assume away a lot of factors, even if they aren't always stated. i automatically answered 0 without a second thought. i wasn't trying to be clever or overly-analytical, it wasn't until after the test that it occurred to me that it could be interpreted otherwise. [/ QUOTE ] As a Physics teacher, I can safely say that the question was poorly worded. Also, it would surprise me if calculations involving initial velocity, final velocity, and acceleration are in the 8th grade curriculum. That isn't taught until the 10th grade here. |

Missed two. The purpose of fruit (I couldn't find the delicious to eat option) and the one about meteors and meteroids.

Re: Science quiz linktarding
guys the rock question is really easy, if you got it wrong because you didn't understand it it's your own fault for overcomplicating things

Guys,
Those of you complaining about the ambiguity of the final velocity question will probably be faced with countless vexing dilemmas in day-to-day life. Like, "buy one get one free" - GET ONE WHAT FREE?!?!?!!????! |

[/ QUOTE ] i still say it is definitely incorrect i guess. in such a problem when you're talking about final velocity, there's a starting and ending point. the question states the object takes 10 seconds to hit the water. right away you should be thinking: starting point = drop, ending point = hit water. final v = v @ impact w/ water. in my opinion there really is no other way to interpret this. i wonder what borodog would say? |
