"I'm lovin' it" infuriates me. Actually, any McDonalds commercial ever infuriates me. [/ QUOTE ] They have been pretty effective . alobar, Coming up with ideas better than what's out isn't hard....what's hard is having a client buy it. Almost all companies try to play it as "safe" as possible which a lot of the time entails going with a boring spot or ad that simply gets their name/services out there. I mean, ok, some ad campaigns just suck and it's clear the client would have been fine with any idea. Yugoslav |

Re: Bad commercials enfuriate me. wtf.
[ QUOTE ]
If you are going to start a thread like this, at least include some examples of horrible commercials. Here's one that makes me want to reach through the television and smack the actors: The Verizon commercial where the two buddies download "Rock the Casbah" on their phone. They then head to their car, singing to the song, one singing the lyric, "Rock the cat box, rock the cat box." The other corrects him, saying he believes it's, "Lock the cash box." Buddy #1 agrees that it sounds right and they go back to singing the incorrect lyrics. What infuriates me about this ad is that the idiot kids in the commercial SPECIFICALLY downloaded THAT song from the internet to their phone. If they chose the song, and the title of the track is the line in question, how could they not know the words? It even says ROCK THE CASBAH right there on the phone, as displayed on the television! I need a cold shower. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, Verizon Wireless needs to hand over their television and national branding to the team I work in...I guarantee you I'd never let that happen. Yugoslav |

Re: Bad commercials enfuriate me. wtf.
[ QUOTE ]
As an aside, as far as watching commercials, recent research on DVR viewing habits indicate people still watch them (fast-forwarding, see something that looks interesting, stop and watch commercial). And even fast-forwarding through commercial, there's some brand penetration with the viewer. [/ QUOTE ] I have two DVRs called Replay TV that have built-in commercial skipping that are absolute gold and quite accurate if you've got your hands full and don't want to deal with FF. There's also a 30-second skip button which is very helpful. They were sued by the studios for this technology and it was eventually ruled that any new models couldn't contain this technology, but for awhile it was rumored that they were going to send out a software update disabling the feature. So yeah, I only watch commercials during live sporting events at bars and such. Which makes my pool of candidates very slim, but I will choose the DUMB-ASS "guy lives in his Nissan for a week" or whatever series of ads. Completely stupid. Also, Peyton Manning is not funny. |

tuq - I thoroughly enjoy Peyton's goofy countenance and bad over-acting in every commercial he's ever done. "Cut that meat!" is a classic of the ouvre.

Re: Bad commercials enfuriate me. wtf.
Any US army/army reserve commercial make me upset. It is so obvious what they are trying to do with those commercials it's almost insulting. Do they just expect people look at the commercial and say "wow, this is fun SIGN ME UP!"
Got to be a better way to educate people about military career |

Re: Bad commercials enfuriate me. wtf.
sam,
The thing is, it never dawned on me that he's over-acting. I just thought he was BAD acting. Also, it's hard to take seriously anyone who pronounces "OOT" as in "shoot". Sorry mang. |

However, I think they are in actuality probably very effective commercials, they just arent aimed at people of our sentiments. -JP |
