Rounders for me too. I think the Rounders people are the first "new school" and then of course the Moneymaker group are the second. I also own and watch Rounders too many times, the ending always gets me even though I don't think his debt is very much money any more.

i got into playing poker because thats what my friends played during our spare block at school. At first I just watched them then I decided to play and bought in with real money since they played with quarters/loonies/bills not chips. I bought in with all the change in my wallet which was like $10 and lost it all in 20 minutes and wondered wtf happened, one of my friends said I just got unlucky
I realized I was bad at this game and I dont like being bad at things, and I thought it would be easy to learn. I thought I figured out the game pretty well until I found 2p2 in feb '06 and realied I was still the fish. |

My guess is that the OP still quotes Rounders daily.

[ QUOTE ] i thought everyone started cuz of rounders? seriously tho that movie [censored] up my thinking about poker for so long. 2 parts still annoy me now 1) " i couldnt lose" 2) he 4 bets johnny chan in a high stakes limit game with rags and chan folds wtf that never would ever happen. [/ QUOTE ] um, they're both bluffing the river and chan finally believes him but can't call with his J-high that he 3-bet bluffed? [/ QUOTE ] I always thought this action was preflop |

I got into poker around the Moneymaker win, but it wasn't because of Moneymaker. I watched poker on tv around that time but didn't even know the rules of the game, I just thought it looked cool. So around this same time (2003-04) I break up with my gf of two years (cheating bitch) and I'm feeling like [censored]. I hear from some old high school buddies tell me they are having a weekly home game. I figure what the hell I don't have anything better to do. So I go and end up going and learning the game there. I also learned the game with the help of my younger brother who was in high school at the time of the Moneymaker win (he picked it up by playing during lunch with friends). Shortly after this I see Rounders, which of course gets me even more into poker. I then discover 2+2 and the world of online poker and here I am today. (I mention the gf because if it weren't for breaking up with her I probably would have never got into poker).
