Default Re: Xbox 360 HD-DVD Player + Heroes + 8 or more HD-DVD\'s Best Buy $179

skipping scenes in dvds and going back exactly to where u wanted it are important features...extras/commentaries/subtitles/language tracks/etc are just gravy...not degrading over time is also a feature that sold dvds over vhs

cds/dvds would not have beat out tapes/vhs nearly as fast if they were only quality upgrades...and remember, i never stated that hd format dvds won't win out...just that one of the reasons it will take longer than it could is because it doesn't offer new functionality

also, you have consumers like me who haven't taken the plunge because they don't wanna pay $50 for a movie to get both hd and non-hd versions...so we'll wait until players are cheap enough that i can replace all my players with hd players and i have one in my laptop etc or until all the movies are dual-format

This is also a picture/sound quality issue. Also, I think you overestimate the importance of skipping scenes in movies. 99% of the time my friends, family, or I watch a DVD it's from start to finish.

I don't think there is as many people in this category as you think. I think most people haven't taken the plunge because they either don't have an HDTV, or because the players are too expensive, not because they would buy two versions of a movie.

I think most are just waiting for a winner to emerge before they take the plunge.

I worked in a video store at the time of the switch. The biggest draw people had to DVDs was the fact that they didn't have to rewind.
