DOn't put yourself in the gray zone - either give her 17/18 - or hand her a 50/100 - or use a c-card. I'm sure she gets some $5 tips.

I'm sure they get 20's all the time. How hard is it for her to hand back 5 singles. Then, he can tip what he pleases. I can't stand tip hustlers.

And I bet 99% of the time when they do get a $20 it includes a $5 tip.

This is why a debit card is best, you can control the tip and not worry about this.

I will say though, I agree with Elaine's thought's that it's worth the price to find someone you can trust, and tip accordingly. I had no problem giving a little extra at this new place I went to. If another couple bucks, meaning one less Starbucks, means someone won't f-up my hair for the next month, that's worth it in my book.

Tips are to be earned not expected.

I agree. The no change thing was bad. Personally, I like my barber and give him $5 on a $17 cut.

The question is really: why would anyone get their hair cut by a barber who doesn't do a good job/deserve a tip?

I would probably rate a haircut as my most likely to tip well service. I always ask for a 4-2 blend with a 1.5 on my sideburns. If they get that right, I might give them a 5 tip.

I'm not saying a $5 tip is never appropriate, just that there is no way 99% of people who give a $20 don't expect change.

I would be incredibly surprised if the average Supercuts tip is higher than $2.

Don't ever get a haircut from a lady. That was your first mistake.

He's right. Men are better at everything except blowjobs and having kids. In that order.
