there is a big differnece when you are playing HU for 2 buyins and playing HU for 100 buyins. I think stealing his blinds in an STT is standard but in an MTT it is unethical. edit when i am playing 10 sngs im not going to wait around for somebody to reconnect.

This isn't the Tour de France and the leader just had a flat tire.

[/ QUOTE ]
So why should the standard of good sportsmanship be less in poker than in other forms of competition?

Here's an interesting twist on this situation: Say you're heads up at the WSOP and your opponent gets a 10-minute penalty for dropping an F-bomb.

[/ QUOTE ]
It's really not analogous because a penalty is different from a misfortune that prevents you from playing.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm aware of this; I still want to see what people think.

Most of the analogies in this thread are a little specious.

Everyone assumes the same disconnection risk when they play online. It's one of the hazards we all deal with. It happens to us all, and we should all expect to lose chips when it does.

does this mean that in the Tour de France the guys shouldnt pass the leader who has a flat tire? or should stall?

i've been trying to think of a clever way to say it, but i got nothing... I dont agree with that.

Yeah, exactly. It isn't always black and white, there are shades of gray. Stealing blinds when your opponent DCs in a STT is analogous to coming to a rolling stop at a vacant intersection at 3am.

“There's also a real sportsmanship in the Tour. If a leader or a strong challenger is sidelined by a crash or an equipment malfunction, the race waits for him.”

Here's an interesting twist on this situation: Say you're heads up at the WSOP and your opponent gets a 10-minute penalty for dropping an F-bomb. I don't know how they treat this, exactly, but assuming they go ahead and deal hands and post blinds, etc., what are you doing? Stalling at all? Insta-raising? I'm rather curious.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'd still prefer to wait for him to get back. Stall, fold in the SB, whatever. If 3-way, I'd ask the other person if he was ok with waiting. 4-way? Steal away. It comes back to how you are going to feel about that bracelet 5 months or 5 years down the road. "Yeah, it was a good HU match. We were even in chips, I took a reasonable pot and he muttered [censored] under his breath. They gave him a 20 minute penalty. By the time he got back, I had a 5-1 chip lead. Game Over." I'm not feeling good about that bracelet. Hell, I'm not even feeling good about the money which allows me to send my theorhetical children to college.

Here's another link explaining the custom at the Tour de France:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/othe...03/3086279.stm

During the 2006 Winter Olympics, a Canadian cross-country skiier broke a pole and was immediately given a replacement by a coach of the Norwegian team. As a result, Canada got a silver medal in that event, while Norway finished fourth. Links:

I 'deserve' it not because I feel bad about something that happened to me in the past, but because I EXPECT others to do the same to me.

[/ QUOTE ]

I would sit out because I think its good sportsmanship. Besides its cool to show your opposition that you dont need to take advantage of him. Besides that might even, even out the negative ev since he (villian) would respect you more.
However I agree with your tecnical analysis.
