Re: Bob Costas: Gambler
[ QUOTE ]
Brent Musburger frequently mentions the spread. [/ QUOTE ] Best college commentator ever. You'll know who covered and the total, even if it's a Okla v some HS team blowout. "The Dogs are barking tonite!" ~ Brent M. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] either way, bet the over, give the points and bet the pats. [/ QUOTE ] Isn't this strategy 16-0 this season? [/ QUOTE ] 7-1 if you parlay them both together as pats and the over. 8-0 against the spread and 7-1 against the over. They missed covering against cincinati by 7 points. As close to a sure thing as there is in football [/ QUOTE ] Most places won't let you parlay the total and the side of the same game. [/ QUOTE ] Not sure where you are betting then. I have never been stopped from betting a team and the over of the same game......ever. And I have bet online on at least 5 different sites, many of the las vegas casinos, and all of the Tahoe casinos (and not to mention the private bookies who will always take your action as long as you follow their spreads). |

I just want to further admire the glory of Brent Musberger and his acknowledgement of the spread and gambooling as the root of popular sports

Re: Bob Costas: Gambler
While they don't drill you over the head with it they mention spreads fairly frequently in broadcasts and I think have mostly been doing so much LESS the past few years although i do find the Costas/Collinsworth chat interesting.
Just the other day I was watching some show and they made reference to the biggest upset in CFB history when 41 pt dog Stanford knocked off USC. Way way way back in the 80's freaking Jimmy the Greek's picks and his various trends that he mentioned would be one of the most popular segments on the CBS NFL-Today pregame show. Obviously ESPN doesn't have THAT big a problem with mentioning point-spreads when they interview Hank Goldberg from Las Vegas or when they put the spreads in the schedule on the ticker but obviously ESPN tends to shy away from such discussion for the most part while only occasionally bringing it up. And it's clear they do not consider it appropriate to mention the point-spreads in the actual game-broadcast itself. |

Most places won't let you parlay the total and the side of the same game. [/ QUOTE ] Almost all books allow you to do this. I know every once in a while some won't, but that is only when they are (almost obviously) correlated. But, even then, I cannot remember this happening anytime recently. craig |

I try to do it on College games with huge spreads that are close to the total. I found one small book that will still take them, but a lot of places that won't take them. |
