Oh Ya, Pocket knives are essential for me! I had a swiss army knife that I just loved that was my grandfathers that I used to carry everywhere. Then I let my wife use it and it disappeared. I am still crushed and need to find a worthy replacement. Thinking about one of those small leatherman pocket knives!

Try one of these:

That's it. It was hard to carry but it could do anything!

random story:

i carried this leatherman through all of europe, and it was extremely useful.

used it many times for various reasons (breaking into the munich train station, a hotel, the usual).

anyway, my uncle has one of these spyderco sharpening things...

i've never sharpened a knife, and this thing worked great on my never-sharpened leatherman. my 5 year old cousin walks up and asks what i'm doing. i hand him my knive and say "i just sharpened that, be careful!" he promptly runs his thumb down the blade, slicing it open. it was so sharp, he didn't even feel it. the thought still makes me cringe.

he stares at his thumb for a couple seconds, then it starts bleeding everywhere. he looks confused, then bursts into tears. tough one to explain to my uncle.

i still feel bad, but the spyderco sharpener works great!

lol, that's me! CHECK OUT MY NEW LEATHERMAN WAVE SO AWESOME... WAIT DONT OPEN THAT YET I GOTTA GET IT OUTTA THE SHEATH

[/ QUOTE ]
I had a buddy in college who'd wear the sheath upside down. That way he could undo the snap and the leatherman would fall into his hand. It was neat, but I would worry about losing it one day when the snap popped open unnoticed.

If you're too slow with your wave, you're not doing something right. Do you have one of the newer model, with the bigger finger-holes? I traded mine under warranty when a lock broke, and they gave me one of those with the fast-draw holes (designed for slow-pokes like you. )

edit: Old holes:

I have the original model Wave. I don't carry the Wave on me because it's too heavy. I wear either dress slacks or shorts, and it looks ridiculous on either of those. I keep the wave in the car.

My carry knife for the last few years has been the SOG Flash II . It's great because the clip is attached from the end of the handle, not the side, so it's totally concealed when you clip it onto your pants. It also has a very fast spring assisted opening mechanism.

I said Wave in the previous post because no one would know what an SOG Flash is and it wouldn't be funny that way if I had to explain it.

Very cool. Leatherman does make an optional clip for the wave; I've never actually fooled around with it because I like my belt-sheath, but it looks similar to the Flash's:
