[ QUOTE ]
KBZ: c'mon. are you saying that bill belichick is the only coach who takes it one game at a time? the definition of trap game was rather narrow, too. [/ QUOTE ] no, many good teams do. but I do think some teams would be more prone to taking a week off than others. I think it's mainly a function of leadership. I do agree that the trap game definition was too narrow. |

[/ QUOTE ] away games @ Cinci, Baltimore, Indy, Dallas, and the NYJ home games vs San Diego and Pittsburgh, plus Philly and Washington I think 15-1 or maybe 14-2, combined with a SB win, would make this team the best ever. [/ QUOTE ] Maybe the best Pats team ever but who knows if they'll be the best team ever. I doubt ever game will be an utter beatdown and their loss or losses if they have one will be judged. Week 3 and even a 14-2 season won't be the only parameters to decide if they are the best of all time. I also think deciding the best of all time and comparing eras is stupid. |

I just want to say that I think "midseason form" is nonsense.
Combined week 1-4 record of of the teams that went on to conference championship games: 2006: 14-2 2005: 10-6 2004: 15-1 2003: 12-4 2002: 11-5 |

[ QUOTE ] away games @ Cinci, Baltimore, Indy, Dallas, and the NYJ Any particular reason you included the Jets here? I agreed with most of your analysis but this is f'ed up! I'd bet my pokerstars BR that the Patriots go in to NY and administer a serious beat down. [/ QUOTE ] you mean, like the beatdown they gave in New York last year ? the NYJ made the playoffs last year, and though they aren't a great team, road games against decent divisional opponents are far from gimmes. exhibit A would be NYJ 17, NE 14 last year. [/ QUOTE ] I think he means that New England already won at the Meadowlands week one. |

Some of the games they've already played have to be taken with a grain of salt. Yes SD is talented BUT they changed coaches. Norv sucks as a HC. Jets played well last year but they were worse then their record. They had an easy schedule. This year it will be tougher. I really like some of their players but I don't think they are that good.
I will say, the Pats have looked impressive so far, but so have the Colts teams of 2 years ago and the 15-1 Pittsburg team a couple of years ago. Neither team won the SB. |

[ QUOTE ]
The 2003 Pats went 14-2. They lost to the 6-10 Bills and the 5-11 Redskins. The 2004 Pats went 14-2. They lost to the 15-1 Steelers and the 4-12 Dolphins. Its not just the good teams that they have to worry about. They are very likely to slip up and blow a game to a crappy team along the way. [/ QUOTE ] I would think a forum full of poker players would understand this better. If they have a 90% chance to win each game, well that's about an 18.5% chance to do undefeated during the regular season. That is over 16 games. (22.9% over the remaining 14 games.) |
