what makes you think his not deceiving you about that?

[/ QUOTE ]

Because He doesn't lie. That should complete the circle. You're welcome to zig and zag solo now.

[/ QUOTE ]

why can't you just admit that you don't know he isn't, you hope he isn't?

[/ QUOTE ]
Why would he hope that? in his view if god deceives him then the deception is good. he wouldn't hope that god isn't good would he?

chez

he hopes that god isn't deceiving him about whether god is good.

[/ QUOTE ]
He can't do that, in his view god is good by virtue of being god. So god is good whatever deception he practices.

chez

[/ QUOTE ]

he hopes his god-given beliefs about goodness aren't a deception.

If I were Satan, I would be laughing that God supports a system of belief in Him that makes it so easy for me to trick people

Right. All you have to do is write a series of books over a period of 5000 years, mention innumberable incidents in it none of which can be shown false, keep up a front of truth and reason, fool an entire nation for 2500 years, fool 1 billion people from all over the world for 2000 years, and withstand all attempts to show that your book is false.

i already had a long conversation with NR about how he can be certain of things about god when he believes that god could deceive him "if he wanted to." at the end of it he ended up saying something like "i concede your point, which i agree is inconsistent with my certainy, but i maintain my certainty, so maybe i don't concede the point after all."

i'd track down the post if i could.

So you believe in the global flood and Noah's Ark? For real?

There have been similar numbers of Muslims for the last 1500 years...

Pretty sure it was local. Still working on it.

[/ QUOTE ]

so it must relatively easy for people to believe a flawed book is without flaws, given their numbers.

Its a slam-dunk of a point. NotReady can't defeat it but you must have got him on a good day to almost concede it.

Even all the guff about the bible being correct about historical stuff is irrelevent. Even if we suspend sanity and concede its 100% true about historical stuff, it doesnn't mean that god never practices deception (maybe only some deceptions are good). For example nothing can ever show that it isn't good for god to deceive NotReady about belief in god being important.

Maybe god produced a flawed book because flaws are good.
