Re: How do you control your emotions?

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] There is actually no reason for tilt. The only reason would be if you get your money in as an underdog. But, as soon as you are all in, and a favorite to win the hand, the (Sklansky) Bucks are already won. [/ QUOTE ] apparently you have never played any poker in your life, or you are just a stupid [censored] [/ QUOTE ] I realise my wording was poor, but do you care to explain? And please stop the cursing. [/ QUOTE ] what you said demonstrates a theoretical understanding of poker without any practical experience everyone tilts, if you think you don't, you're delusional [/ QUOTE ] I tilt, but if I do, I try to remind myself of what I originally wrote. Sometimes it doesn't work, then I simply watch some tuff_fish, take a pause and then restart playing. |

Re: How do you control your emotions?
Whenever I would lose a lot of money I'd grab a buck or two and just tear it apart. It would remind me that I don't need the money anyways, and just literally destroying it reminds me of what I'm doing every time I let variance get to my head.

[/ QUOTE ] Aren't there other ways of reminding you it's not about the money besides tearing it up? OP: If you're going to play SNGs you have to be able to take 10-15 BI downswings without flinching. If you can't, and constantly fear them, your EV will suffer from lack of bubble aggression and it's a self-fulfilling prophecy. |

Re: How do you control your emotions?
[ QUOTE ]
Hi, I have been playing poker for a couple of years, but last night I experienced a very emotional event. Over the past couple of months, I had built my bankroll from $50 into $1,250, but after an undeserved loss of $60 last night, I went on serious tilt and managed to throw away another $300, to reduce my bankroll to a pathetic $900. Normally I play $10 SNGs, but this weekend I tried playing $11+$1 Turbos, and after having very short-term luck with that, I decided to try playing $22+$2 Turbos... To make a long story short, I played 2 rounds with 6 tourneys per round, and I lost 12 tournaments STRAIGHT!!! My question is: What can I do to help control my emotions? Other than reading books (I'm currently reading "The Poker Mindset"), what strategies do you guys use to keep up solid play? How do you handle bad beats? What can you do to avoid going on tilt? While I hate to admit this, I am a very emotional poker player and react strongly to bad beats or undeserving losses. I just KNOW this is eating in to my potential earnings, but I've been struggling to fix it. Help would be greatly appreciated! [/ QUOTE ] The essence of BBV .... in 2 words...... |
