But after you have enough "scratch", why work?

[/ QUOTE ]

Because it's a challenge, and something to do.

And besides, what's enough?

I'm totally hijacking the thread. First, Brian said he's got a fully "stacked" retirement plan when he had that big downswing. So he's financially comfortable. My point is that there have to be more fufilling challenges out there for an intelligent young guy. How is sitting in a dim room risking millions with a small ev more fun than being a inventor, businessman, or "balla"?

75s,

"I doubt that Big Game has as much value. "

"Its sad to see an obviously smart guy not use his brain"

"Meh...I've always thought of poker as a means to an end. I don't just get playing for the fun of it."

"It's just always disturbed me that smart people are comfortable doing things like gambling long term"

What is wrong with you? Why are you on a poker forum?

I've said I don't get it. I never said quit while ahead, but perhaps "invest more wisely".
Also, since i doubt you play at that level, you certainly don't get it either.

I don't want Farha to win either. Patrik and Bobby FTW! At least Patrik is making pretty offspring.

75s,

It looks like Brian Townsend is trying to stake a claim as being the best in the world at poker. Now, imo, it's far too early to separate how much of Brian's success is due to him being good and how much is due to him running very well. But for him to be looked at, say five years from now, as one of the best in the world, these are the types of games he needs to be playing right now. There's obviously a lot of ego involved here, and maybe he could be doing other things to make more money or be more of a contributor to society or whatever. But I really don't see how you can really criticize someone for trying their hardest and taking risks to be the very best in the world at something. Sure, he's likely to not actually be the best and will probably not stay as hot as he has been the last couple of years. But maybe he will. And maybe he will turn out to be as good as some of his biggest fanboys think he is. Can't blame a guy in his position for taking a shot, and I definitely respect him for going for it.
