Re: SOUL thread. give it to me.
Question - I really like R&B and Motown... but that is not "soul" per se, right? Not sure if there is a meaningful distinction (I think there is though). For example, I [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Stevie Wonder (probably my favorite modern recording artist) but wouldn't consider him soul music at all.
For newer artists, I never thought of D'Angelo, Angie Stone, Maxwell, Jill Scott etc. as soul, but as R&B. -Al |

Re: SOUL thread. give it to me.
All,
Not a classic soul genre performer, but a voice I just love, Richie Havens. Here's something he did a few years ago w/ electronic music band Groove Armada - I just love this and it's definitely a very soulful groove - Hands of Time |

Re: SOUL thread. give it to me.
I was born by the river in a little tent
Oh and just like the river I've been running ever since It's been a long, a long time coming But I know a change is gonna come, oh yes it will It's been too hard living but I'm afraid to die Cause I don't know what's up there beyond the sky It's been a long, a long time coming But I know a change is gonna come, oh yes it will I go to the movie and I go downtown somebody keeps telling me don't hang around It's been a long, a long time coming But I know a change is gonna come, oh yes it will Then I go to my brother And I say brother help me please But he winds up knocking me Back down on my knees Ohhhh There been times that I thought I couldn't last for long But now I think I'm able to carry on It's been a long, a long time coming But I know a change is gonna come, oh yes it will |

[ QUOTE ]
If you like teh older stuff, check out Etta James, and I agree with El D, only women should sing Fever. [/ QUOTE ] Etta James was more Blues than soul and the best version of Fever is the original by Little Willie John. Check out Little Willie John on "I Need Your Love So Bad", "All Around The World", and "I'm Shakin". |
