Default Re: Special Sklansky Question: Arenas vs Duke

[ QUOTE ]
Arenas would be called for traveling no fewer than 10 times in the first half.

Every Duke player for the past decade has pretty much been NBA caliber or very close to it.

The game is 8 minutes shorter.

Shot clock is 11 seconds longer, meaning theoretically fewer shots should be taken.

No continuation, no defensive 3 seconds.

Shorter 3 point line.

He'd score 25.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is one of the dumbest things I've ever read on this board. Every Duke player NBA caliber? He'd score 25?!? Ban please...

How many points would Arenas score against this years Duke team (currently ranked #10) if he was playing on an average Div-I team (that had ample time to practice with each other)?

From Hibachi's blog:

[ QUOTE ]
D'Antoni said that after I scored 54 on them and made my prediction to score 50 on the Blazers that he'd like to see what I'm going to do against Duke.
I thought it was funny because if I have the chance to go back to college, I’ll give up one NBA season to play against Duke.

One college game…that’s five fouls, right?...40-minute game…at Duke, they got soft rims…I’d probably score 84 or 85.

I wouldn’t pass the ball.

I wouldn’t even think about passing it. It would be like a NBA Live or an NBA 2K7 game, you just shoot with one person.

[/ QUOTE ]

If he says 84, 85, I believe him.

I believe he could as well, IF the other team was trying to win. If he was just out to score 85 though, Duke could easily slow the game to a ridiculous pace and he wouldn't score near that many points, but he would still slaughter them

For prespective, the most dominating offensive player I can remember in modern college basketball was Glenn Robinson for Purdue in the early/mid 90s. Purdue's second best option was Cuonzo Martin. The team's offense revolved around Robinson every possession and he was the most efficient offensive player I can remember. He scored at-will at the major college level when everyone knew the ball was going his way. He was 6'7" and could bury the college 3-point shot.

He averaged 30.3 and 31.8 ppg in his two seasons respectively.

Put Arenas on a college team and let them play the season to try and win. 75 against Duke is laughable.

I think 75 is stretching it, too, but if Duke plays to win (i.e., not triple teaming Arenas giving other guys lay-ups), I think 50 is pretty attainable for him.

Arenas now >>>>> Big Dog Robinson in college.

I don't think scoring 70 is out of the question if all he wanted to do is score. He'd definitely get at least 50.

Are you guys forgetting that Maravich averaged 45 points in college? All he was trying to do was score. Now imagine how much he would average if he went back to college after a couple years in the NBA.

I'm not saying Arenas = Maravich, but saying that he couldn't even score 50 is laughable.

I think he could definitely score 50, probably at will. I could see him busting for 70+ on occasion.
