Re: College Football Schedules 2008
You want to see tough schedules? Here is USC 2008 and 2009.
2008: @ Virginia Ohio State @ Oregon State Arizona State @ Washington State @ Arizona Washington California @ Stanford Oregon Notre Dame @ UCLA 2009 San Jose State @ Ohio State @ Washington Washington State @ California Arizona @ Notre Dame Oregon State @ Oregon @ Arizona State Stanford UCLA If USC had the 2009 schedule this year it might have been the most brutal schedule of all time. 4 teams who at one point were top 5, all away. |

Re: College Football Schedules 2008
This is a link to a grid showing every SEC school:
http://secfootball.itgo.com/2008schedule.html edit: There seem to be a few gaps (Ark only shows 10 games with only 2 non-conference), but it shows all the conference games and all the non-conference that have been shceduled for a while. |

Re: College Football Schedules 2008
USC is so far ahead of the curve on OOC scheduling it is to weep. They go with at most one cupcake a year despite having to play a 9 game BCS conference schedule.

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] -UF opens with Hawaii [/ QUOTE ] I wish they did a neutral field thing in LA or something. Not going to happen obviously, but it would make it a lot more interesting. UF is obviously the better team but traveling 5000 miles to play in the Swamp has to move the line a lot of points. We're talking about 6 hours of time difference as well so if the game is at 4 in Florida that'll feel like 10 in the morning. [/ QUOTE ] I somewhat agree here. I'm not sure that it'll be close anyhow as Brennan is gone next year. But yeah, the hour difference would level the playing field a bit. [/ QUOTE ] I think it'd be impressive if Florida travelled west at all. b [/ QUOTE ] This has been discussed previously (I belive?). Its difficult for UF to play many OOC games. A few reasons- -UF typically has 7 games a year at home. In order to fulfill those, it makes it difficult to do home/home with other teams when you have... -FSU every year. Yes, FSU is not what they once were but they are still a competitive program. The home/home that we have with them every year takes out a potential away game we could have with another team. -UGA at a neutral site (in jacksonville). Again, we cannot have another home game due to this annual game every year. Now, thats not to say we can't play other teams, its just that we typically need to fulfill those homegames and not many teams are willing just to come to the swamp for one year (there are of course exceptions). |

Re: College Football Schedules 2008
A self imposed 7 home games + 1 neutral site game is not a valid excuse for a poor OOC schedule. If USC wanted to be a revenue whore they could too, but it's no different than consciously choosing to play a weak OOC schedule.

Re: College Football Schedules 2008
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Michigan: Toledo, Miami(OH), At Notre Dame, TBD. Puke. Remind me why we needed to add 30 years to the Notre Dame deal? If we're going with the 1 "power" 3 cupcakes route, we could at least vary the power school for variety's sake. [/ QUOTE ] Maybe they can add Appalachian State? That could be the power school you need. [/ QUOTE ] TOL and MIA may both be able to hang around against Michigan. Obviously Michigan will be the favorites but it seems less likely they will be 40 point blowouts. Even after they woke up this year and got good again Michigan had a very touch struggle with EMU. Eastern only trailed 16-14 in the 2nd half. And there was the scare vs. Ball State last year as well. LOL at Michigan fans complaining about playing those MAC 'cupcakes' after you look at some of the lower tier teams in their own freaking conference and when they ALREADY struggle against the likes of Appy, EMU and Ball St. It's not like they're playing an 0-11 Northern Colorado team or something. TOL and MIA can actually play ball. |

Re: College Football Schedules 2008
USC plays an extra conference game and has the ND rivalry, so that seems to cancel out the Georgia game and the FSU game. They are playing @OSU and @UVA.
High profile teams that want to schedule premium OOC opponents can do so. There is no excuse, the reason Florida plays cupcakes is because it does not want to play real OOC games. |
