the average american only takes home about $2900 a month, so i don't see how the average american can be spending $4k.

I can't believe OOT as a group hasn't come up with a better solution for this than "suck it up"

Nice car. Now get a second job to help pay for said car. Eventually you will have learned a lesson through your sentence as a night time walmart cashier.

Are you serious?

Have you heard of credit cards? The subprime mortgage crisis? Payday advance companies? Do you have any idea what the American credit system is founded on?

Edit:

Also... link for $2900 a month average take home? that is WAAAYYYY too high. That's ~$50k/yr pretax salary. I know because that's why I took home at my first job.

Edit2:

I guess if you're talking mean take home for an employed American it might be close. But the median take home for an American of working age (which is what you should be using) is no where near $2900/mo

If you don't care about your credit (which everybody does LDO) you can just cancel the 9k check, let them repo the car, and buy a beater for under 2k.

I cut a down payment check of 9k (which still hasn't been cashed yet) and financed another 14k.

He might be using the long term finance amount. Like he financed 11k but at his term and interest rate he'll end up paying 14. Or it might have aftermarket [censored], nice rims, etc. There's no way you can appraise a car off a two sentences on the internet.

Fly - give me a friggin break. When you say "i financed $14k" that means you borrowed $14k. Of course the sum total of your payments is going to be more than $14k. And what the heck kind of aftermarket accessories would make a car, that normally sells in the $18k range, worth $23k plus the value of the trade-in? Hoff get str8 up owned by the car salesmen. This might go down as that dearlship's deal of the year.
