But the reality is, anything CGI isn't really happening, so it's not a real chase at all. That doesn't mean it wasn't a decent scene in a movie (which it was), but no, it's not even a real car chase, so it can't even really be considered as one of the best car chase scenes.

[/ QUOTE ]

Should we also eliminate scenes which have been edited? After all, it's not a real car chase if it's just dozens of scenes filmed at different times (even different days) edited together.

Oops missed the car part...but by default it is pretty much regarded everywhere as the French Connection with Bullit probably pretty close behind

Dirty Mary Crazy Larry (1974) - the car chase is the movie

Vanishing Point (1971) - no question - this is the winner.

Mad Max (original Road Warrior film)

All those bitching about CGI should realise a non-CGI car chase is as fake as the CGI. You think they actually have a car chase and film it in one big shot? I mean come on..

I was thinking of starting a thread, which was movie scenes which you need to stick around and watch if you switch to the movie on TV and this would have been my initial contribution. Assuming we are talking about the first scene through the mall and not the end.

one big scene? no. but thats fine, CGI is way less impressive than some anything you find in teh older stuff.....Im a big car in the movies dork, but watch the original gone in 60 seconds, everything in it is 100% real, including a few crashes that seriously injured HB that werent meant to be crashes (one imparticular where he smoked a telephone pole). To me its like finding out that Jackie Chan doesnt do all his own stunts when you are talking about CG in this regard.

I have nothing new to contribute here.

I will just say that the one from 'Ronin', the 'The Matrix Reloaded' freeway scene, and the last 20 minutes of 'Death Proof' are my three favorite, hands down.
