Yea, don't you guys realize that defense improves with age? [/ QUOTE ] He's 23, so by your logic he's going to be worse next year because he will be 24? Makes sense. |

[/ QUOTE ] Defense peaks real early, especially in shortstops. I doubt he'll get worse because it's hard to get worse, but unless he seriously works on technique I'll doubt he'll significantly improve. |

Re: Jimmy Rollins - Philly sports talk radio rant
Even if his defense doesn't improve, which I think it will, he is still much more valuable than Rollins because of his superior hitting. Rollins topped out with a very good year for him, and Hanley was still better and he is just going to improve.

[/ QUOTE ] It appears that you have a reading comprehension problem. Where did I say that Rollins wasn't the best shortstop last year? I said that Rollins is not the best shortstop in baseball, meaning, he won't be the best shortstop for the upcoming season. If you have a choice at Ramirez, Reyes, or Rollins next year for just one year, you would be crazy to pick Rollins 1st or 2nd. |

[/ QUOTE ] If you look at the +/- fielding rankings posted earlier in this thread, it is pretty obvious that Rollins was a more valuable player this year then Hanley. Hanley is a crazy good hitter, but he isn't 44 runs better then JRoll at the plate... Other fielding metrics show a similar gap in their fielding. That said, going forward, I too would probably rather have Hanley... but mostly because he is so much younger. |
