My current backer and I used to/still discusss hands with each other frequentl over AIM. I stopped playing poker about a year ago, but when I decided to start playing poker again this summer I hinted to my current backer that I'd like to play the sunday tournaments but dont currently have the roll to do so. Then him and I reached an agreement.

So I would recommend discussing poker with good players, if they think you're suffiently capable they might offer a stake.

Thanks for the serious reply. I suppose I should start posting more hands and asking questions, as opposed to simply reading and being a sponge. That said, I guess I should say I haven't previously, and really aren't now, actively looking for backing.

I think what I was/am looking for is a way to baseline my play. In other words, if my play is (or is not, as the case may be) at the level of folks who do get backed, then my game may actually be pretty fair (or not, as the case may be). I haven't really figured out a good assessment that isn't too results-oriented to discount all those two-outer river cards.

For a real answer, I'll say that I sold pieces of myself in WCOOP events. I also have ~5% of a few other players that I'll keep anonymous just because I don't know how they'd feel about it.

serious answer: im backed for mtts (i play cash on my own money) by two 2+2ers - not any of the names already mentioned in this thread, but that doesn't change how i play against either of them when we're at the same table. on the bubble of a 3k nlhe event, i was at the table with one of them and raised AK utg, he reraised from MP, and I instashoved having him barely covered because i had a sick tell that he'd fold even though he was getting ~2:1.

Can someone tell me what incentive a backee would have to softplay his backer or his backer's other player? I don't get squat if my backer or one of his other players cashes, so I can't understand how there is any conflict of interest, at least for the backee.
