I'm like 95% going to this. I am hitting the satellites hard this week. If nothig else I'll buy directly in to a step 6.

[/ QUOTE ]

Step 6 costs $2100. You are risking $2100 to try to win the $2500 buy-in, 6 nights hotel, and $1400 in cash.

Direct buy-in costs $2500.

I don't know if buying into "step 6" at $2100 makes sense, given that one might as well save the trouble and buy-in directly for $2500 and ask for the $100/night group rate for the room.

I've been to many 5 star hotels around the world, and I think the Grand Waldo certainly qualifies as a 5 star hotel, although they do tend to serve Chinese citizens, and not everyone can speak English very well.

The rooms are very clean and nice, and it's got free internet.

Does anyone have an opinion on the hotel where the tournament is being played? Is it a really nice hotel, or just ok?
Through PS the rate looks to be only $100/night whereas Wynn is about $500/night.
Assuming Wynn Macau is the same as Wynn Las Vegas, what Vegas hotel would the one where the tournament is being held compare to?
How far is Wynn from the tournament?

Thanks

[/ QUOTE ]

Keep in mind that Macau is more like Atlantic City than Las Vegas in terms of the safety.

I have heard a handful of stories of taxi drivers in Macau ganging up with triads/organized crime to rob and beat up tourists. I was warned to take hotel-operated shuttle buses and to travel in groups whenever possible in order to avoid the riff-raff.

--

The Wynn Macau and the Venetian Macau are "7-star" hotels by Chinese standards.

(The new Venetian Macau on the "Cotai Strip" is within walking distance of the Grand Waldo, but NOT the Wynn Macau which is on the Macau Peninsula.)

The Grand Waldo is a "5-star" property by Chinese standards, which means it is about a "3-star" property by U.S. standards (on par with Holiday Inn)

(Motel 6 would be considered a "3-star" hotel by Chinese standards.)

Man...

I am sure you mean well, but the only correct thing in the huge amount of text I quoted above is "Through PS the rate looks to be only $100/night whereas Wynn is about $500/night."

And that was in the post you quoted, not even in your post.

Sorry man

I think I am just going to give up and buy in directly or play the super satellites when I get there. After playing 12 hours yesterday and making a DS final table and losing the chip lead I am tired of grinding.

I'm booking my flight tonight or tomorrow. Since the satellites and kickoff party starts Thursday I suppose I will get there Wednesday evening.

Many of us will be on the Wednesday night 10pm ferry from the Hong Kong Airport Ferry Terminal, arriving at the Macau Ferry Terminal around 11pm.

The last shuttle bus to the Grand Waldo Hotel leaves Macau Ferry Terminal at 11:45pm.

You need to arrive in Hong Kong by no later than 7:30pm on Wednesday night just to be safe so that you can make the 10pm ferry.

(That means departing San Francisco or Los Angeles by noon on Tuesday. Macau is 16 hours ahead of US Pacific Time in November.)

90 minutes should be enough time for you to retrieve your luggage, check in at the ferry shuttle bus gate (and buy your ferry ticket if you hadn't reserved it ahead of time), and take the shuttle bus to the ferry terminal.

I'm flying in on United from Chicago which gets in at 6pm on Wednesday night.

Who all is getting in around that time or is anyone else taking that flight?

You will be on United 895 nonstop from Chicago O'Hare.

United 869 nonstop from San Francisco will be arriving at 6:45pm. I will be on that flight.

United 867 nonstop from Los Angeles will be arriving at 7:40pm (that will be cutting it a bit too close for comfort as far as making the transfer to the 10pm ferry. You will probably make it if you have carry on luggage only.)

We, as well as those who will be flying from SFO and LAX into Hong Kong via Cathay Pacific (6:55pm arrival), will likely all meet at the HKIA ferry terminal for the 10pm ferry, which is the last ferry of the evening.
