Re: Stardust Las Vegas closing 12:01am 11/1/06
Yeah, every other place that's been demolished, I wasn't sad to see them go. There was nothing wrong with the Hacienda, just that it was out in the middle of nowhere (imagine that). But I stayed at the Stardust as recently as last December, and it was still a decent enough place to stay.

Re: Stardust Las Vegas closing 12:01am 11/1/06
[ QUOTE ]
1. Casino itself was extremely busy 2. Employees were having a blast, more like a party. 3. Customers were in a very somber mood, some were even crying (lol) 4. Poker room managers seemed like they coudlnt' wait to turn off the lights. 5. Tried to purchase some chips at the cage. Limit of 5 of any denomination. NO Silver inlayed dollars were allowed to be sold, but you could get them in 5's and up. 6. Poker room had 5 games going, 3/6, 1/2 NL and 1-5 stud. Seemed like every player knew everyone by name in there. The room looked a lot fuller than it was because there were just quite a few people sitting around on the empty games chatting. There was open seating everywhere except a list for NL with 15 minutes left to the room closing. 7. I heard so many different closing times tonight that I had no idea wtf was going on. Poker room was 10pm for sure. Other employees and players are talking about 10pm everything shuts down, midnight, 12:01am, 9am, noon tomorrow, ect.. No one seemed to know whats up including the employees. [/ QUOTE ] I busted outta the Sahara tourney and headed to Stardust and got a seat at 9:30 in the NL game. My only poker ever at Stardust was the last 30 minutes. There were plenty of metal inlay $1's at the poker table...if you wanted chips to save, shoulda just sat at a 3/6 table for 5 minutes. It was a rockin' good time, though. Nobody in the poker room was crying, but folks seemed pretty sad to see it go. I broke exactly even in my 30 minutes. The very last hand after they announced "dealers--shuffle up and deal the very last hand ever" at our table was insane. It was limped all the way around, family pot (of course). On the flop someone bets $5. Raised to $10. Raised to $15. Raised to $20... just figure people are being goofy. Next card someone shoves in his whole rack of $240. Called. Called. Called. WTH? Flopped straight vs flopped set vs flopped two pair vs turned two pair. Guy to my right pulled in a >$800 pot on the very last hand ever in the Stardust poker room. Odd thing, this guy had one hand earlier folded KK pre-flop in the face of an all-in raise...his opponent turned over 99 and we all made fun of KK mercilessly. He had the last laugh. |

Hum, looks like they had a party inside the casino till noon today. As I said in an earlier post, lots of different answers as to the closing time. Anyways..Stardust will be missed.

I know he's in the Black Book, but if the Stardust's casino license is terminated before its demolition, I wonder if Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal might be given one last tour?

The coolest closing was the Castaways (the original one on the Strip). [/ QUOTE ] Goodbye Castaways |

They never catered to families with rugrats. Had to wear a tie to eat dinner. I used to stay there every Christmas when it was just me and the Japanese high rollers. I spent more nights at the DI than all other hotels in Vegas combined. I also once hit 13 at roulette there, let it ride, and hit it again. Good times. I had reservations there for the last weekend, but they moved up the closing without even bothering to tell me, and I saw it implode on the evening news in Burbank. It was never one of my favorites, but I'll also miss the Stardust. I hardly recognize anything in town anymore. |

The two best things about the Stardust were the sportsbook and Don Rickles; who I saw there three time.
