Duke,

I just assumed that, since these guys have to motor all over the Bearing Sea to find the crabs, that they have a pretty big migratory range and thus wouldn't take well to captivity. And they seem to die fairly quickly in the holding tanks, although how much of that is being restricted and how much is having a billion other crabs on top of them I have no idea.

I figured that too, but you could fake that with a treadmill so they can get their walk on. It's not like they move really fast anyhow. Perhaps there's a pressure differential that is difficult to mimic.

Something like a holotank for crabs would be fine, I'd imagine. It would be awesome if the technology that led to the holodeck were first developed to get us more delicious crabs.

Is there something wrong with farm-raised crabs? Or will they not reproduce in captivity for some reason.

[/ QUOTE ]
how well would you function under pressure?

anyways, you should feed the crabs a steady meal of metal flakes and then submerge a giant magnet.

Why the obsession with seeing the crabs? Just get some GPS beacon thingies and stick them to the crabs that get thrown back.

This is a really interesting idea.....
